Or it might P this dealer off, and he will take it out on you in the service dept. Don't think they don't put notes on customer files, a customer who drug them thru the dirt... If you get it and its acceptable, chalk it up to experience, especially if you need this dealer for service...

You’d be absolutely crazy to go back to this dealer to then use their service dept after what they just pulled.

Dealer service departments are mostly full of headache issues anyway. If you’re leasing the car and it’s not costing you anything to do the routine oil change, inspection etc. on your car there then it is what it is.

But if you’re buying the car…do that stuff elsewhere. Theyre not gonna destroy you car for installing a Chip that you’ll later need

I was thinking this too... there are several dealers in my area that are closer. They aren't offering any free oil changes or anything, but I am not sure if I will need them for the eventual module installation to enable the heated wheel and parking sensors.

Don’t use the service department if you’re buying the car. You clearly can’t trust the sales department. So why trust the service?

One day you’ll go in for your complimentary oil change and they’ll mention all these issues with your car and then you’re gonna be second guessing yourself with your car. Then the salesman will convienently check in on you and mention the new 2023 or 2024 models he’s getting in stock and say these cars are so much more improved and next thing you know you’ll be trading your car back to them to buy a new one

Now they are trying to get me to sign this (Actually 2 of these, one for the parking sensors and one for the steering wheel). Why would I sign this, it doesn't do anything but waive my legal rights. It even says "your dealer will have the ABILITY" but not the obligation "to retrofit your vehicle". They can keep their $25.:

This is now standard for these features. If you don’t sign it, they probably won’t install the chips later on for you.

the form doesn't say that... its just a legal waiver.

so a year from now when they realize how much it will cost to fix all these vehicles they could just shrug and say "sorry, we aren't retrofitting these modules" and we will have no legal recourse.

The form specifically states "The retrofit will be provided to you at no additional cost."

If GM goes back on this and says they aren't going to do the retrofit, you can bet there will be some law firms that jump on this for a class action lawsuit.

I doubt the retrofit will be available this summer given the current constraints, new features like heated seats going on constraint, etc. My guess would be that by summer of '23 retrofits are starting to happen. Just a guess...

You're over thinking this.

The car should have these features which are standard with your trim, but with the chip shortage they can't include them right now. Rather then them just not delivering cars to buyers and wait for the chips to become available, they're going to provide this feature to you later on. This is stating that they will retrofit this at no additional cost, with an anticipated date of when it may be available.

GM is not charging you now for the missing features, which is where you see a credit. If you build a car online right now through Chevy, you will also see these credits and message.

This is not something the dealer cooked up, although your dealer obviously is shady and I wouldn't trust them.

There is no signature block for the dealer or GM. There is just a signature block for the buyer. The dealer is not committing to anything on this form, the only thing signing this does is waive my legal rights.

No one will be able to sue because this waives your rights to legal action.

a heated steering wheel is way more than $25... this is not a credit it is a "gesture" that allows them to attach this legal clause.

They are giving you $25 for the inconvenience of not having a heated steering wheel between the time you get the vehicle and when it gets retrofitted. Other features like the steering column lock are a $50 credit, but that is likely close to GM's actual cost on that feature and you'll never get it retrofitted.
