Havi g a custom y pipe made seems to be the best route so far....why get them ceramic coated? Whats the difference between the the pipes and my exhaust pipes. Is it mainly heat shield

Custom Y pipe might be more expensive but will fit your vehicle perfect if you get it done at a good shop.

Ceramic coated 1) for rust protection 2) helps control the heat in the engine bay 3) can have what ever color you want lol

As long as they do both inside and out, I'd ceramic coat them.
Ceramic will preserve them and keeps the heat in the exhaust gas where it belongs, rather than heating up your engine bay by radiating off the tubes.

Cooler under hood temperatures have many benefits, and theoretically, the slightly hotter exhaust gas should make the
cats more effective, hence, lowering emissions slightly.

They look sweet too.

Sooo.....I talked to my mechanic and I think its gonna be more money than I want to spend on long tubes and cats. The price of custom y-pipe is whats gonna hurt. And not worth it imo for and extra 10-15 hp. Yes, I think they would be better, but I just cant fork out the extra dough for the y-pipe and extensions on the o2 sensors.

Soo shorties it is :( I am ok with it for now and understand why he said what he did. Its not like this is going to be a drag car, this has to have emissions and cats and it is my daily for now and for a few years longer.

So what do you guys think about ****** headers. He said they were pretty good from previous experiences. I read in another thread about doug thorleys as well. Thoughts on shorties from them?

Why not just go with LPP/xs power longtube headers? It already comes with a y-pipe but with no cats on them.

man i had the pacestters. i also got the y-pipe for the older trans. i actually didnt know it wouldnt fit the truck. so i just took the one i bought to an exhaust shop and for $70 the guy reworked it to work with the 80 trans. was really not that much if the cost of a custom was way to much. just another idea as the shorties really r not worth the cost.

I have to have cats as this is my daily and are required.

Is getting an extra 10 hp really worth it either? I have to buy high flow cats and fit them somewhere with the y pipe. After he put it on the lift we looked at it and there was space, but mainly on the passenger side. I would also have to extend the o2 sensor wires to reach as well. It just seems like to much for me to try and tackle myself. I am waaay to new to this already and electrical is one thing i wont touch.
I may sound like a sissy, I just dont have that kind of funds to invest. I can always do it later on when this becomes my weekend car.
