my .02¢, is I would use a wire harness with fuses. Sounds like it came with a set. But seems like its over powering your electrical system. Ok, you can fix this easily. Cut the little eyehole off and make a wire loop as a temp. fix. I would recommend a more permanent solution soon, though. But it should work well enough to figure out if the harness fixes the issue. Take a wire brush to the terminal first to make sure you get good contact.
