I'm no expert but here's a pic of my dash showing 2wd/Auto/4wd

Bought it from Hertz 2+ years ago, so it could have been a special fleet package, it is what it is.....

Fleet cars have fewer 4WD options as yours shows. It has 4wd (no all wheel drive just an auto engagement of 4wd like they all have) but no low like most.

Not really something I need to care about, as long as I can use it 2 or 3 times a year and not worry about getting stuck on a little beach sand.

Nice to have if I ever need it but it's pretty irrelevant to me to know the technical side

I wouldnt use Auto 4WD on the sand. All it does it wait until you’re in trouble to turn on 4 wheel drive for you. I’d suggest turning it on yourself when you go into the sand.

And it’s really not that technical or complicated. Auto 4WD is exactly like your Automatic headlights. They turn on the lights for you when the car senses they’re needed.

Auto 4WD does the same. Simply turns 4WD on for you when it thinks you need it.
