It fit better than i expected!

And i went for a nice long drive to the property this weekend, spent most of the day with a chainsaw to remove brush so i could have a nice road to where i want the range to be.
Got pretty far with it, but i have a long ways to go.

Ac in the hoe works fantastic!
Gets cold pretty fast.

I did have an issue with the rear ac where it was pretty warm, even after fixing the grounds along the frame.

before i left, i used the tech2 in order to do a diagnostic.
nothing found so i did the "learn" procedure for the rear blend doors.

Got nice and cold afterwards.

And when trying to load up the hoe, i found the rear door didn't open.
tech2 found no errors, but it couldn't command it open.

I finally just pulled the negative from the battery for a good 5 min and reconnected.
All is good!
And the rear AC got even colder afterwards. :waytogo:

Working the land, i got pretty hot and needed breaks.
Super handy to rest on the back bench while drinking water and snacking.
AC blowing nice and cold from the rear vents. :waytogo:

Once i had had enough, i decided it was time to have some fun.

I was so exhausted i could hardly hold this thing up. :jester:
I was also trying to not stand on an ankle i sorta twisted about an hour before that.
trying to actually hit the target, i tried to stand on it for a better footing.

So holding a cell phone with one hand, trying to look down the sights with most of my weight pivoted to one leg.

My pew session didn't go great overall, but i needed it. :happy160:

I also decided it's time to order a few nice IDPA (large) sized targets :jester:

Back to the hoe,
I changed the filter right before the drive, my plan is to pull the filter again and see if any more metal filled it.
if yes, then the pan is coming off before it manages to bypass the filter like the 5.3 did.

been thinking,
:uhoh2:

A few years back i had my vette messed with by a neighbors son, he had some mental issue and was super fascinated (big bon-er) for/by me.
+ an unknown history of the hoe.

me looking at that brass/copper looking material...
Material that looks almost identical to what i had in the 5.3

And i just found out, that guy that hated me for some unknown reason... Died on July 3'rd.
Just found that out this weekend...

If my memory serves me correctly, his "fascination" with me got really re-sparked roughly around that time period.
Damn good chance he died while creeping/hating on me again... :emotions34:

So...
While in Oregon, the wife and i stopped in this rock shop since rocks are neat!

the owner of the shop kept talking about "healing" factors of different stones.
Me thinking "stoned shop maybe" :jester:

Noticed some white sage, something about getting rid of negative spirits he was saying.

Me,
:hmmm2:

So here i am, thinking... what could it hurt?!

:yaoface2:

I can find his obituary, but I'm really trying to not speak too much "ill" of the recently departed.
I also removed a bad review (naming him) for the place where he worked and damaged my car...

I pulled this for another thread, so here are the parts for a valve body rebuild i did a while back.
I also rebuilt the techm, i found the pressure switch laminates were on their way out.

So i go the pan off and started looking things over.

Everything looks great overall
Pulled #3 and #4 rod caps off, and they look pretty good.

turned the engine over to see if anything looked loose, and everything looked great.

Then i decide to look at each main with a flash light, starting with the thrust.
there it was, a little sliver of copper sticking out.

So i pull the main cap.
First thing i see is a worn out end of that bearing.

but not the thrust side?!
then i notice the bearing seems to be facing the wrong way.
thrust side facing towards the front.

I noticed the little indexing tabs line up perfectly
Match up with the old block.
Only 1 slot in the block per side, just like the original block.

So i roll out the upper (block side) main.
sure enough it's backwards.

so i re-review my images.

I knew to look for this, and I SWEAR i verified they were facing the correct direction.

Plan is to roll in a new main, I don't think i need to do any of the others.
just the one.
Sad part, i can't get just that bearing.
looks like i need an entire set at $140. :banghead:

Plan is also to re check the converter back spacing after the new thrust bearing has been installed.

with the pan off, i have a ton of space.
so it should be easy peasy to do it before the pan is reinstalled.
hardest part will be to re-seat the thrust bearing and to re-verify end-play.

So this is the thrust bearing, the center one in the block? Because i was wondering
way back when about whether or not a new thrust bearing could be rolled in. From what I could read, only the other mains could be rolled in but not the thrust bearing but I could never find a definitive answer. Also i assume you checked end play when you assembled it and it was good?
