man I like the thought of converting to 6.0 but don't like the thought of spending cash right now.

And your situation is so similar to mine it uncanny....so I'm fearing that it is indeed the same issue....especially since my yukon is such an early model.

Is your yukon a 4x4? Im wondering if the 4l65e tranny will bolt up without a ton of mods.

Yep 4x4 , sounds like you might luck out - I didn't ever have any signs of coolant anywhere, no smoke no nothing.. Just took it in about 1/2 gallon a month.

well I'll pull the heads this weekend and we will know for sure if that is the problem. If so, I'll be investigating an LQ4 Motor that is within driving distance.

Yea..I would think they would be the same but I can't bank on it.

Can I pull my valve covers off without removing my intake? I wanna check for sludge and fluids....I would think by now with 160k miles I would have plentiful sludge if my heads were cracked.

I'd agree - its the internals that are different - the 80s wont be a direct bolt up

Yeah you should be able to - just pull coil packs off

For anyone who is changing their water pump....go ahead and buy an Ac compressor belt and replace it while your in there. Mine was shot and with summer coming up fast it was a no brainer. As for the heads issue, I'm just going to let it go and buy a 6.0 and wait on the 5.3 to either crap out or burn enough fluid to make it a priority to swap

Might as well change the tensioner while you're in there also.
