Bruh... I'm at a loss for words. You were literally seconds away from shutting it down for the last time before major surgery. The Universe straight up trolled yo' ass!

Trying to focus on the positives: I don't know if you planned to pull the motor to do all the work. But, now you can have your heads checked, rebuilt, machined, shaved... whatever while you build up a replacement block on a stand. The cam swap, replacing seals, etc. would be so much easier on a stand.

While it's out and you have uninhibited access to the torque converter, you may as well upgrade it. Are you replacing the rear main seal and rear cover gasket? If you're gonna open that up, did you get a new barbell? It's cheap insurance and I recommend the billet one from Sac City.

Fired the hoe up to put it in the bay, and she made some horrid noises, like the lifter decided to collapse. Tried to get it in the shop, when a REAL bad noise happened. A valve seat decided to break, and destroy a pistonView attachment 260294

Sorry to read about this Mike. Did the crack up take out the cylinder? Melling makes the replacements (CSL359F) and they are $35 at Summit. Good machine shop can swap them out in no time for minimal expense. Then of course you could always go with DART sleeves and a 4.1 bore and stroke for more cubic inches!

The valve seat broke in half and dropped into the cylinder. Half of the seat was stuck in the intake valve and wouldn't allow it to shut, lol

I'm gonna look for a new short block I think... I'm just still in disbelief that it happened and I hadn't planned on this contingency, lol.


My old heads just have a few bent valves in them if you need a good core they should do one of them anyway. The other has a few battle scars but I think a competent machine shop could prob clean it up pretty easy

So I was recording what I thought was a lifter tick for you all to hear as a before shot. Well it turned into total carnage, but during the surprise of it all, I forgot to stop recording. I think only like 3 mins of this are relevant.

nah, i'll have some of that fruit punch tho

how does the cylinder wall look in the one that checked out? rod and piston are pretty cheap, rebearing the bottom end. should be able to get it back together

i say this because finding a l92/l94/l99/ls3 for under like $3500 is becoming harder and harder. if youre swapping the cam theyre all viable
