Hey guys, I'm thinking about doing a motor and tranny swap in the tahoe. Ive got a 2001 5.3 with 130k. I know I've got a lot of life left in the motor, but I want to drop a 6.0 or a 6.2 with a 6 speed into it. Anyone who's doene a swap, I could use some advice and a rough estimate of what I'm looking at as far as a price. I was even thinking of contacting duraburb if their still in business and seeing how much a duramax would be. Thanks for any help

I did a 6.0 LQ9 swap. Left trans the same. Motor was from a 04 Esclade 29k on her. Complete with everything and computer, harness etc was 1800 to my door.

But I got to sell off all the duplicate crap I didn't use..

Did you do the swap yourself? I would think this would definitely be the way to go. Once you jump up to the 6.2 AND the 6 speed tranny you going to be looking into a lot more custom work and therefore more $$$. It'd probably be more bang for your buck to just do the 6.0 swap as you can use your existing tranny and a lot less customization I would imagine. $1800 to your door is not bad at all!

Yes, did the swap myself.. well with help of a buddy. Yes the 6.2 involves a lot more work, and more headache than I wanted to deal with. The 6.0 swap was straight forward. We used the intake, fuel rails, alt, A/C compressor (didn't even open system) Everything bolted and plugged in perfectly. Just had the PCM tuned for the 6.0

I thought that was fair for tho motor too - considering i had A/c, Alt, Throttle body, Coils, PCM, Harness on and on all to sell off the 6.0 b/c I didn't use any of it.

True that! My lq9 now requires premium. I did it mostly b/c I had the bad Castech heads on my motor, and it was eating coolant... The price for new heads was more than an entire motor with 100k less miles, and more HP:burnout:

KillerBrand I think you may have found the best route to go with this if you're going to do it and a good resource to ask questions if you need more info ;)

Why kinda MPG do you get and why are you required to run premium? Is it cuz of the tune?
