Hey guys,

I want to do a simple, yet effective upgrade on my stereo system. I'm MECP certified, and I have plenty of experience, but I don't think I've ever done any Yukon installs, just a Sierra, but that was forever ago.

What I'm looking to do, is keep all the Bose stuff as is, but add a 10" or 12" and some sort of highs. That way I can let the Bose stuff focus on providing the midrage, and I'm not asking too much of the Bose system.

I want to keep any new additions stealth, because I don't really want to sacrifice any space.

I was thinking about replace the head unit with a nice DD and using a clean harness, as if I were only running the Bose stuff. Then running remote and RCAs back to a nice 4 channel amp under the back seat, and then using the first 2 channels (bridged mono) to power something like a JL 10, and using the other 2 channels in stereo to power a decent set of 3-way 6x9's (or maybe some horn tweeters, or maybe both).

I'd really like to integrate all 3 speakers into 1 box/amp rack somehow.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to do this proper? Has anybody done it? Does anybody have any interest in planning the box/amp rack for me? I can cut and build the box/rack, but I don't have killer box design skills. I can just follow directions well. So if someone (who really knows their shit) is interested in helping me with that, I would be greatful!....and I could prolly throw a few dollars at them for their work.

Thanks in advance,
Chip

just curious to why you want to replace the stock hu and still use the bose stuff, I am currently running that setup but thats only til I get the money to get another amp and some components, the bose speakers are 2 ohm from what I hear and a majority aftermarket units are 4 ohm so that could cause a problem in the long run, and are you wanting a box to house the 6x9s and the 10?

Well, I just don't feel like spending a ton of money on replacing components that are already perfoming fine IMO. The ohm load of the speakers shouldn't have anything to do with a new HU, since they are amplified from the factory, and I'm pretty sure I can find a harness that will accomodate the pairing. Not 100% sure though (which is why I'm asking).

As far as the box goes. I'm looking for 1 single unit, that can accomodate the amp, sub, and 6x9's in such a way as to have the 6x9s aiming forward from under the 2nd row. The idea behind the box is simplicity and efficiency. I want to be able to wire everything on the work bench, then toss it in the truck. No hassle, you know? I just don't want to start complicating things, and dropping a bunch of money on a high dollar, complex system. Been down that road too many times!

60/40 Bench.

I'm not too picky about air space requirements. The volume can be an approximation. I don't think it'll be enough of an issue to get **** about. That would defeat the purpose of the idea anyway. I just want simple, cheap, and efficient, while still being mindful of quality, with respect to the work and the devices.

Does that make sense? Like............Nothing half ass, but also not extravagant! Just something "smart". It doesn't need the "look at my dick" factor, it just has to perform the task it's designed for well.

I'd personally just add a LOCX and a single sub/amp combo first. That may fulfill your needs and not drop a ton of cash.

Naw, that won't work, because I DO want to replace the headunit.....and I'm looking for more than just bass. I won't add bass w/o also adding some mid and high with it. I just don't feel like diving into a full system on this truck. Thanks for the thought though!

well you can add the sub/amp for now, later replace HU and all bose, add 4 channel amp...just do it in stages.

You pull the factory HU, then you will need to replace all the front.

But that's sort of the whole point. I don't want to replace the Bose stuff, ever (if possible), and I want to do it all at once, so it doesn't turn into the never ending project. Ya know what I'm sayin'?

i would say put a 6x9 on both sides under the 2nd row and do a downfiring 10 or 12 in between the two
