New water pump and thermostat, now this issue.

it's a 187f t-stat, but it seems to hold temperature at 200f.

Could air in the system be causing this?
Im not sure if it's opening to hold at 200 or if it's just not heating beyond that.
I'm using a Bluetooth dongle and my phone to monitor the temp.

Thoughts?

I had cooling issues in my escalade and I changed out the water pump, thermostat, and still had overheating issues so I ended up buying a new radiator and problem solved ..... but if yours isn’t overheating I would recommend hitting the radiator with reverse flow with a hose and get it all cleaned it and doing the same with your heater core, just get a hose and also reverse flow it ... hope that helps ..

I wasn't having over heating issues, the pump was leaking.
Im just not sure if the tstat is opening.

It's almost too consistent to be a blockage. Especially since it worked fine before the weep hole leaked.

If the lower hose is warm once the truck gets to operating temperature your thermostat is working. What your seeing is normal..if Temps climb past 210, u have a problem.

Have a lazer temp gauge handy to check if your gauge is accurate? Could also be a stepper motor on your gauge is hung up

I'm using a Bluetooth dongle plugged into the obd port and the Torque Pro app on my phone. It's quite a bit more accurate than the dash gauge.
I don't have a laser either.

From the engine which why the hose gets hot. The idea is to build heat in the engine to boil off condensation and lower emissions and cool it in the radiator..

Grab ahold of the upper radiator hose once engine is warmed up. Squueze the upper hose between your thumb and index and middle finger. If you feel pressure pressing outward trying to push your fingers away from your thumb then your thermostat is opened up. The aftermarket thermostat typically do not share the same profile as the original OEM and seldomly will your temp gauge hang around the same point as you were use to with the original thermostat.
There is a possibility you still have some air in the system but usually that will cause a overheat condition. I would toss the thermostat and buy a higher quality or even OEM AC DELCO. Whats the spec on the OEM opening temp?

After the truck runs for a while and the t-stat opens, shut the truck off and run your hand over the radiator. Feel for cold spots.

The only time I've had a truck run very hot from an air pocket was when the heater core was sucking in air. Otherwise, the air bubbles work themselves out very quickly.
