New window strategy

Im not trying to act high and mighty or anything, or step on anybody's toes. I havnt had the tint on in a couple months now since my tickets. I was just asking other ideas and opinions. Ive only had a problem with a single police officer, my only tickets are in his name. And I was wondering what to do.

Ca doesnt do inspections so I dont have to really worry there.

You can get the same effect of dark tinted front windows if you lightly tint your windshield and go with lighter front window tint. All my cars in high school and college were done that way. Even adding the 4-5 inch strip on the front window helps.

IMO, you have done something, whether you know it or not, to get this guys attention. I pissed off a cop in high school and he pulled me over for something literally every other day. After a month and 20 some warnings; I said screw it and sold the car and got something different. Problem solved.

The easiest solution is a pair of good sunglasses.

I have a 6" 5% strip and 30% on the whole windshield and the funny thing is I asked him if my windshield was legal and he said yeah... I knew it wasnt but wanted to just see. I plan on re applying tint soon but not until I get out of this guys jurisdiction.

That's crazy. I never a cop say anything about my windshield tint before, it is like they don't even notice.

What type of gun is he using to read it, how does the gun work?

The old school guns had to slide over the window so it was on both sides of the glass and would only read about 1" down. We used to tint the top two inches of glass at 35% and the lower portion at 20%. That pissed them off too because there was nothing they could do about it.

Ive never gotten it read, just had to sign the ticket and be on my way. And I dont even know if they can use a meter to measure the windshield but again ive never been hassled for it.

So, are you not allowed to have any tint on the front two windows?

I think legally you have to let 70% light in and no tint from the factory lets in around 73% so yeah no tint is "legal" here.

Yep, CA laws suck:

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
• Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
• Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
• Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
• Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

• Medical Exemption State law does NOT allow medical exemptions that would allow you use special tint.

That is a harsh law, here in Texas you can have 25% on the front two windows and as dark as you want anywhere else besides the windshield.
