Not sure this is going to work out (considering selling after 3 weeks)

I have had my 2022 suburban rst 6.2 for 3 weeks and 1400 miles It’s very nice and I want to like this truck but then I drove my ‘98 today for the first time since I got it and now I have a problem.

I can’t really deal with the way the computer and the transmission interface, primarily. When I floor it for a second and take my foot off the gas, it holds at 4 then 3k rpm for what feels like 5 seconds plus. I don’t need 10 gears and a computer playing with them. And all of the chimes. Or the auto stop or collision warning, automatic e brake etc. all of the things I was afraid I could not get used to, I can’t seem to get used to.

I think the computers are too much for me and I want a clean 1999 suburban with 100k miles or less and my cash back. If you want to buy it PM me I am considering my options. It’s gray the color is great.

I can’t really tell you if that’s normal transmission operation or not. You might take it to the dealer and see if they can do a relearn.

As far as all of the “nannies” you can turn off quite a few of those in the settings menu of the infotainment system. Surprised yours came with auto stop as it seems all 5.3 and 6.2s have had it removed for a while now.

If it still doesn’t work out for you, of all the times to walk away from a nearly brand new vehicle and not take a major depreciation hit, now is the best time ever.

There's a reason I've put what most would consider to be stupid money into my 2008 and 2013. They may get terrible fuel mileage compared to the newer ones but there's so much less stuff to break and be annoying and they ride better.

Yes that’s why I was willing to pull the trigger without ever being inside one. I felt it was low risk. Between myself and my folks have have every at least one of every gen from the GMT400 so I know what I like and what I don’t.

I miss my 2004 badly. I got this mainly because I’m getting divorced and my kids wanted a nicer car to get dropped off at car line in.

I have 3 hot rods already and just need a beater to get me around. I will never find $72k of enjoyment out of a vehicle that’s more computer than mechanical machine.

I can’t figure out how to access the settings in infotainment yesterday I tried to see if decent assist was on so I would not have to hit the gas to roll downhill but can’t figure it out. I’ll try again, but I am not sure I care at this point either. It’s kind of stuck in my head.

While I do understand your frustration with all the nannies the new vehicles have, its just the way it is. Some of the stuff can be shut off to an extent, however a lot of it will never go away. Hell, my wifes tahoe high country would not even go into gear until the seatbelt was buckled…what?! That has been disabled, however cant seem to get rid of the annoying ding if the belts are not buckled.

Good luck on finding a 20+ year old vehicle with 100k or less miles…hell, finding them with less than 200k is almost a challenge. And the word “clean” usually does not come into play lol. Here are a few i came across with a quick search on cargurus, which seem somewhat clean and less than 150k miles anyway…

Get a spare buckle cut off the seat belt from a junkyard truck and plug that in.

We have a 2021 Yukon AT4 with the premium plus package - so all the bells and whistles.... have a couple Tahoes on order now spec'd out almost $10k cheaper...getting away from air ride, sunroofs and auto steps.

Now a lot of the safety stuff will be on the tahoe, but as others have mentioned, most of that can be turned off (the lane keep assist had be turned off on our current Yukon as we live on a narrow two lane highway and it was constantly correcting the vehicle's position)

Here's a very comprehensive video that walks through all of the customization in both the instrument cluster and infotainment display. Turning off buckle to drive and rear seat reminder are @ ~20min mark. All of the collision/detection systems are a couple minutes later.

Sounds like you've made up your mind to move on, but I would go through the customizations shown in the video below and give it another week. See if it becomes less intrusive with all of the reminders, dings, etc.

Thanks for the replies. There are a number of lower mileage ones out there you just need to look around. I would gladly get into a '99 or '05-06 if I could figure out how.

I talked to the dealer and there is nothing they can do to take it back in a way that would credit me the $5K of sales tax, so it looks like I am stuck. I am probably going to list it here for fun though just to see if I get lucky.

I turned off everything that can be turned off apparently. The way it shifts is just unacceptable to me. I am a self-admitted right-leaning luddite who has been reading "Why We Drive" (I highly recommend it) and yes I have made up my mind that I made a mistake. I look at the dash and all I think about is how many of those pixels will still work 10 years and 120,000 miles from now. Like I said its in my head, I am an eccentric person in my own way and I am just trying to own it.

I suppose if I sold the old cars instead I would forget what I am missing eventually...
