oil filter wrench

ive got a work truck i work on, its a 2015 silverado crew cab 3500 4x4 dually and mason dump with a with a 6.2 i believe. last oil change the filter was a pita with the filter wrenches i had on hand, looking for something easier. any one got any recommendations for one?

Harbor freight sells a cap/cup style oil filter wrench set. It uses a 3/8 extension and a ratchet and makes it a breeze

thanks, ill have to buy the new filter and make sure it fits at HF. ive seen them things not fit all filters.

My favorite is a pliers-type that grips the filter. Ive used it on cars, trucks, boats, my PWC, and even motorcycles. Never failed to loosen a filter.

We've been using strap wrenches for near twenty years. Before that, oil filter pliers and before that, just plain old muscle when I was young and strong! But! These LS oil pans gobble up the little filtro so I started using long filters and discovered they were still a pain to remove. So now we run K&N oil filters with the 1" nut on the bottom and can remove them with a wrench or socket and ratchet.

And never forget the persuasive abilities of a long screwdriver and a hammer!

I had to do that once. I was using a strap filter wrench and it crushed the filter. Sucked big time, and it was a huge mess.

all those tools are in my arsenal already, theres really no room to use them on the 2015 set up. ive also got a cap wrench, but its for a toyota. not mine, but helping a friend out, now i own one ill never use again lol

@Tonyrodz the trick to both of them wrenches posted are you never, and i mean never use them on the body of the filter, you can only use them at the very top of the filter where it meets the engine, up top is a solid metal ring, clamp anywhere else your crushing the filter.

me too lol ever break out the hammer and screw driver? i did, i dont recommend that one lol its a disaster.......but once you rip the filter body off you can hammer the ring free pretty easy, but getting there is a adventure for sure lol
