Not trying to scare ppl. just make you guys aware that 20psi is bad.
When I got this 06 5.3 silvy it was low just like everyones here.
I immediately changed to a cheap PF48 and castor oil 10-30 NON syntec.
Also dumped in a full can of seafoam and drove it for a week, nice and easy.
Then changed filter and drove it for 3 more days getting in it pretty good.
Finally drained it all out and the crap that came out was
.
(Alil trick, while draining oil. once it gets to a trickle. Dump in 2 quarts of cheap castor oil as fast as you can and watch the plop plop come out of that pan, if it was as bad as mine.)
Installed a big PF63 and filled with Valvoline VR1 10-30 and BOOM! 40psi constant.
warmed it up and hit the freeway for some lovins. After aprox 15 mins of Freeway blasting 6K rpm speeds. My oil pressure idles at 40 and max's the gauge under Full WOT conditions.
Obviously there was major clogs in this engine that are now gone.
This is how it should be.
I have changed the oil few times since then and now run more expensive WIX filters. Oil pressure is constant and reliable. most importantly, no more sludge coming out
of my pan.
Sometimes it takes alil effort to make these engines do what they should.
I doubt the guy I bought the truck from ever changed the oil as the inside of the valve cover is doodoo brown and sticky as bubble yum gum in the sun.
I might get more aggressive with cleaning the interior of this 5.3 once I have a back up on my engine stand rdy to drop in.
Good oil pressure
This is very important if you guys hammer your engines like I do.
cold in driveway.
