It'd be a relatively easy, but quite worthy project to do to keep yourself busy after you've run out of the maintenance items. Maybe do one door a day or week. Then a pillar here and there, etc. Replace the trim panel clips as you go and maybe add felt tape where they rub and make noise. Eventually, it'll be a luxuriously quiet cocoon, surpassing that of most new vehicles.

I agree. I can do it here with no lift and at my leisure. I like the felt tape idea too.

It's what the factory uses for the Denali and Escalade models. Instead of the trim's tension clips just snapping into a metal slot, they stick the felt tape over the slot and cut a slit in it then snap the trim on. This isolates the metal clip from rubbing in the metal slot. Some panel edges are lined with it, too.

Why did you change the title of the thread..? Are you done....?

Check the title again. I changed it to be current. Sorry to throw you off. I read it again, after what you said, and it was deceiving. I will likely still be throwing $$$ at this rig till at least the end of the year and in the future I will be doing things that are more cosmetic maybe. I like/love mechanically sound rigs that I can, at a moments notice, put the key in it and drive to N.J. to talk @Tonyrodz in to a block BBQ and then home, without giving one thought about anything other than food and fuel. I got some crap from some of the guys at my American Legion about replacing parts that are not bad yet. While I have driven and used tow trucks in business over the years, I hate them and want to keep from having to use them and therefore I am throwing my extra social security $$$ at the rig as I see fit. Soon, there will be a new radiator, water pump, fuel pump, starter, alternator and battery cables. Exhaust is coming as well. U-joints will be coming too. I want to take advantage of the GM parts at RA and my friend that helps me. Hell, he is as pumped to move forward as I am.

Need to reach out again to @915_Tahoe for help. I am trying to get Genuine GM parts for the starter and both battery cable sets. Last 8 of VIN is 5R221385.

I can only find a reman starter at RA that is AC Delco #323-1644 but I think I have the GM number for a new one and is 89018123?

Positive cable as AC Delco is 2SD79CX but the two GM numbers I came up with are 19295324 or 15372005, correct?

Negative cable as AC Delco is 2SX321A but the lone GM number I find is 15321212, correct?

I do appreciate your help every time. Thanks.
I'll get you that info in the morning

Ok, glad to hear it! Keep it going! I completely understand about replacing components that are aged, but not “bad”. I’ve done the same for certain parts, that are wear items. Much better to be prepared, and know your rig is reliable. You can replace a lot of things to make it pretty bulletproof, minus some manufacturer defect. [emoji106][emoji631]

My goal, at the end of all this, is to only have to deal with engine and transmission internals as they come up down the road. Even then I may throw an engine or trans at it at the very first sign of any problems that don't seem to be able to fix quickly. Differentials too, unless I do get in there with the 3.73 gears. At 68 years old I have no idea as of now how much longer I want to work but with my job, I live here and a great wage and since I have been here for so long now, I can take a week or two off at any time I want. I have been told/reminded of this many times here.

I am doing as much research as I can about concealed carry states and whose states accept other states permits. I thought about a nationwide permit but that is unrealistic because would likely have to have a very special reason for it and some states just love to keep us out of their states with any guns. If anyone knows of a way to accomplish this, please let me know but I don't think it can happen. Maybe I need to get a "Private Investigator" license. "PNW PI"!

In New Jersey it's just about impossible for a private citizen to get a concealed carry permit.

It used to be with state reciprocity, you could get a permit in Fla, home state, and maybe one other, and be covered for almost everywhere. This was about 15 years ago though, and states have screwed that all up.
