If you heard a pop, then something broke. Check the cable ends on the rear axle as well. When i was pressing down on my emergency brake pedal i heard a pop on the pedal. Now my parking brake not working. I looked under it and the cable seems loose and not tight. Does it just need to be readjusted?
Luckily the rear end was changed with a texas replacement. The brakes are good and were barely used. I will just change all the cables.Usually at that point just buy all new stuff from the junction forward. Test the rear cables with a set of vice grips to see if they are free (pull them at the junction 1 at a time). If they don't freely move back and forth, then you are in for a good time of pulling all the rear brakes apart as well when you put in ALL new cables.
Or, if you don't use your parking brake often.......just put some black tape over it and the problem will be gone. LOL
If you are going to fix this yourself, get hold of the shop manual first. If you are replacing the rear cables that attach to the anchor blocks, Lisle makes a tool to help get those off and on.
Don't break the anchor blocks, they don't make them anymore.
