Playing DVDs in an '09 Yukon Hybrid

I recently picked up a '09 Yukon Hybrid and immediately ordered a lockpick to play DVDs on the NAV screen while driving. It's my understanding DVDs should play as delivered from the factory while the vehicle is in park. I've tried playing DVD's in my vehicle while in park with the key on ACC and while it is running in park and I just get a "Disc Read Error". Am I missing something? I don't have the RSE system, but I thought my head unit NAV was still DVD capable. Thanks for any help.

My 09 Yukon XL Denali plays them with no problem in park. I thought about getting the lockpick but I heard it has issues with vers 4.0 or later. I have 5.0 in mine.

You might not have DVD capability as I have RSE in my Yukon and GM probably figures why would you want to watch a movie in your vehicle while parked. (not much use).

Since you don't have RSE, most likely your nav radio is the one that only plays CD's in the upper slot. Look on the face of the radio at the bottom trim piece - if it doesn't say DVD then you're out of luck. Your Nav is DVD-based but your radio will only play CD's.

Your right. If you don't have RSE your nav radio is a different part number. The only difference is that it doesn't have the dvd reader. Its stupid in imo. They are the same price too.

that is really lame that there are 2 head units... with only ONE real difference... the ability to play DVDs... why have the option? the option to not play them has to cost more than having all of them able to!

I'm sure it's a liability issue - GM legal department said no DVD's in the front...unless you need that capability to support RSE.

but you could do that w/software... or maybe that is the only difference...

the restrictions of having to have it in park are enough...

i hate liability stuff, soon we will only be able to drive our priuses, and never breath out because the CO2 might accidently offend someone, somewhere, sometime.

You can thank law suit happy people for the problems we are having now. Someone probably got into an accident using their NAV unit while driving, thus the restrictions and the "I agree" click. At least on ver 5.0c it is only every 50 starts or so.

I've been saying for years that GM should use the VSS and the Passenger sensing system together for NAV. If there is a passenger that is heavy enough to activate an air bag, they can prob handle inputing a destination. But on the other hand i know i would be tryin to fool that system too. Just a thought
