SO I'm thinking about going the E-fan route with my Tahoe, and I saw a few different options, and as far as I can tell you can either get a kit, complete with shroud/mounting surface etc.

The other option as posted by JK (IIRC) is where two fans just get stuck to the radiator. Will this setup work as efficient as a setup with a shroud?

This setup, with a shroud: (Jennabear)

Vs.

without a shroud (JK Motorsports)

It appears that a simple setup with 2 fans, like JK can be put together for minimal $$, compared to a setup complete with Shroud.

Just wondering what the differences in effectiveness are.

Set-ups with a shroud are more efficient at pulling air through the entire radiator surfaces rather than just where the fans are mounted. My set-up works great, but can be made to work better with a shroud. I had planned on making my own shroud with ABS/fiberglass, but just got lazy, lol. I like doing things from scratch rather than buying kits because for me it's easy and definitely a lot cheaper.
Either way, with or w/o a shroud, a dual e-fan setup is much better than the stock engine driven fan.

Thanks for your input.

So without a shroud, you have no cooling issues? Long idling etc?

No issues whatsoever. A/C cools much quicker during startup and stays colder while idling and sitting in slow traffic and eng temps stay a bit cooler as well during idling. We've had 100+ degrees day here for the past few weeks and the a/c and eng have no problems staying cool even in midday traffic. You might also want to swap to a lower t-stat also, maybe a 180* if your eng is mostly stock. This will help keep the eng running a little cooler also. Whereabouts in Fl are you? If you're farther south, you might even want to try a 160* t-stat.

Engine is mostly stock. I'm about an hour south of Tampa. 180* should suffice, I think.

So Jenna and JK, what are your opinions about the kits that Ty found on e-bay? The sellers seem kinda like *********, but they have mostly positive feedback and the kits look pretty well put together. I'm not all that good with this kind of stuff yet, but I have a feeling I'll be keeping the Yukon for a long time...might as well start with a kit. Any thoughts?

I am not a fan of the radiator mod, I wouldn't want to have to drill into anything. I like that my fans are set up for different speeds (via the PCM) and will turn on and off as needed, thus saving more energy/power.

I am sure those fans will work just fine, I am more inclined to the plug and play applications.

I just did this efan install on my ************* daily driver yesterday (in the 100deg. heat), not too bad ...the pain in the ass was getting to the radiator backside because of the heat exchanger for the AC.
