went home yesterday, reworked the charge pipe that has the maf sensor in it. i put some unnecessary bends in it to have the charge pipe come up straight in the engine bay and look nice but form<function - so its back at an angle and should read more consistantly. it does run so damn sweet on speed density though so i prob will delete it but im hoping i can match the idle characteristics of it with the maf before i delete it. sick of messing with it last night didnt bother to see if it helped so will try tonight

also drained the catch can, had a lot more in it than i thought it would, about 30% of a standard water bottles worth? 4-5oz - but engine is fresh so prob some blow by till the rings seat.

i need to get it aligned after swapping all of the arms/spindle/tire rod ends, pulls to the right a little was trying to get it tuned up enough to run it over to friends shop and have him do it.

the transcooler that i installed is so-so. it'll stay maybe 15-20* under the coolant temp until i beat on it then itll come up to around the coolant temp. wants a lot of air flow to drop - i'll notice at like 45mph it takes a while, while at 80+ it takes just a few mins. the trucool 40k seems to work a lot better at keeping the temp down, the slim wide area does more than the thickness. havent seen anything over 180* yet so i'll prob just leave it and see how it works out.

*Clicks "Meh" button.

I have the tru-cool on mine and the b&m deep pan and the highest it will get is 180, seems like it was running cooler last year maybe 165 unless I was really beating on it or maybe I am just being more savage with it again, it drops down to 145 or so fairly quickly though when I am not getting on it. Outside temps here have been pretty hot a lot of over 90deg days all summer

yep with the trucool it would hang about 155-160 on mine with a 3800rpm stall.

I am also doing a lot of low speed, short drives and constantly watching it so this derale cooler may not be that bad after i get done dialing everything in. 180* im really not to worried about as long as that is the upper end- also about the worse time of the year temp wise so it shouldnt ever be any worse than these few months

nope.

got it running pretty good and smooth, just felt down on power from where i thought it should be. it is only on the (working) wastegate around 7psi, the other turbo it ran about 13psi so that could account for someone it. in either case felt slow. confirmed by hitting test and tune. first pass was slow no changes from street, had junk air filter on. next pass i took the air filter off but laptop died so i didnt want to change much. it ran a little better but still slow.

soooo on the hunt for problems.

went to pull plugs, accell garbage plug wires pull 5 ends out of the ceramics. going to try taylor cut to length wires this time around. plugs- had one (cyl 7) that looks like theres no timing mark on the strap could have been fouled out, the rest show heat about 1/2 down the strap. ordered a new set of plugs to replace them all

was showing a little knock at cruise and cyls 7/8 also had some oil on the threads, most likely from catchcan/pcv system eating oil there was a lot in the can first check. sooo i turned the valve covers around so the vent lines are in the front of the engine. ordered can#2, it would still want to blow out the 2nd valve cover under boost

since i was having to order plugs/wires anyway i dropped the injectors back off to be cleaned/flow'd again - not really suspecting fuel problems just was to get them checked for sure before i keep chasing problems.

also wanted to check the ignition coils, found a link to check resistance across a few pins. not really a good/no good indication but just to compare across them. andddddd found an oddball that happened to be the newest one made by acdelco on cyl 1, ordered a full set dephi coils hopefully a few of them will work.

also noticed when i started messing with the passenger side plugs that the exhaust manifold was leaking. sooo said f-it and pulled turbo, downpipe, and manifold. threw a machinst straight edge on the manifold it its pretty messed up. straight in the center then both ends lift away from the head. going to call around tomorrow and see if i can find someone with a large enough belt sander to deck the flange. and going to get some new orings for the exhaust ports for these heads

hopefully, all this will make it feel like its running on all 8

Damn man. It never ends! Keep up the good work. Hope to see some more videos of you spanking some “fast” cars and trucks. [emoji16][emoji106][emoji631]

great news!

everything went to junk waiting for the engine to come back.

got one coil that is "stuck open" and leaking some oil type fluid. i say stuck open but in simple terms, of the 4 wires going to each coil; + and - charges the coil, and the other 2 wires tell it to fire from the pcm, reads like its being told to fire the whole time.

injectors - didnt think i had a problem but turns out two of them were about 100cc down from the rest , and the spray pattern on half of them wasnt that good.

picked up the manifold, they decked all the surfaces (against head, turbo, crossover) pretty damn nice. looks great on the straight edge ive got. waiting for some new exhaust gaskets/orings and i can start putting it back together.

We’ve heard this song and dance before

bruh... i had it running great, just not with all 8 cyls :chewie:

prob is I got no reference to know wtf its sposed to do, or sound like, or how much vac at idle, n junk. dont know if idle is supposed to be nice and smooth cause smooth idle with a few dead holes sounds like a lumpy ass cam :banghead:

Keep plugging, man! You’ll get it. I just like jabbing at you but truth be told you’ve got more perseverance than I ever would. I don’t have the patience for a “going fast” build for exactly the reasons you’ve posted about lol

if I hadn’t known you for so long on the forums I probably wouldn’t jab as much :roflbow:
