Like I said before BlizzardX23, it's not me trying to tell people what to do, but more on the lines of if people don't take it into consideration, HID's are going to be outlawed!!! It might not "BLIND" you, but the cop that sees them might not be so tolerant about it. again, I use HID's in my halogen projector headlights, and so not trying to be a hypocrit, just trying to throw some information out for people to read, and hopefully inform them more on the issues that people have with HID's. Like DenaliAK said, Daniel Stern consults for the government, and not saying his words are law or whatever. Just saying, people like him who do know alittle more then all of us, even if it's not what we all believe, it will and can affect us all by having people install HID's incorrectly.
again, not trying to be a hypocrit, and tell people not to install HID's into there halogen headlight housings. Just should be done with warning, and precautions to the issue of "GLARE" . And like Eagle has said, your eyes may be different then his, or his, or mine or that guys!!! Ya know. So, BlizzardX23 can coming at you either, but HID's in reflector housings cause way more glare then HID's in projector housings, gauranteed!!!! And I bet that cop that "MAY" pull thetahoe92 over won't be so interested in if it "doesn't" glare other drivers. Not saying it's will or gonna happen, but I see people with HID's incorrectly pulled over.
Now I live in AZ, so it may be different here then were everyone else lives. But HID's used to be EVERYWHERE!!! Not so much anymore, because people thought they could just put them in any vehicle and be ok. There are still laws regarding headlights, and if you read those PnP kits, most say: For offroad use only.

Again, just trying to throw information out for everyone, and not tell anybody what to do, or how to do it.

you can do that about anything...I can find FACTS as to why driving a motorcycle is SAFER then driving a GM SUV...

Dude, if thats true then hook a brother up. I've wanted one for years, but my wife won't even let me go LOOK at a motorcycle, let alone buy one.

You all make very valid points...and no DenaliAK...it wasnt selfish of me to say any of that...it was ignorant because I didnt take the age of other drivers into account...I made a mistake and I can admit that.

My truck is lowered, and thehoe92s is sitting higher then stock up front..so being in an SUV doesnt exactly count much there.....but even in my Moms BMW Z4...and on my Harley, I've had a problem with "BRIGHTNESS" before..aka, high beams..but not EVER "glare"...but again, thats a 22 year old...so that plays a factor as well. They will never be "outlawed" as they come stock on most new vehicles....and they are much more efficient then halogens..

I dont know how you can tell if they were pulled over for their headlights unless you stopped and asked them? that doesnt seem to make much sense lol...I have HIDs and I just got pulled over because I was running oklahoma tags on my truck...so someone could post up "I saw a Denali pulled over because he had HIDs in his truck"...

I was an Army Mechanic...and I adjusted military headlights...meaning, I worked on headlights for the "government"...Im no one special lol...neither is he...

lets take a step back and think about something for a second...my Dad lifted his jeep and didnt re-adjust his HALOGENS..we got flashed allllll the time...I believe this issue has to do 100% with AIMING the light..and nothing to do with HIDs...like you and EVERYONE else said above...

Fair enough, bro.

And yeah, aim has a lot to do with it.

But, compare a real HID projector to a standard halogen reflector. They are designed totally differently. Aim with a halogen reflector is not nearly as precise as with a projector; it can't be because of limitations in design.

For simplification, a reflector housing is a mirrored bowl with a light in the middle. The light reflects all around the mirror and eventually out, but the angle it leaves the housing is uncontrolled.

A projector uses a similar bowl, but then forces the emitted light through a narrow opening, then through a two cutoff shields, then through a lens that further focuses the light. The projector is like the laser and the reflector is that big old flashlight your dad used to have.

Now, take the HID bulb intensity and put it in a standard halogen reflector, and all that extra bouncing around light is amplified at every angle of exit, not just one narrow beam. Hence the glare. Most of it is focused forward, and some are better then others at this, but there will always be more spill.

Man, I'm just letting you know facts I have know!!! Not everyones situation blizzardx23. And yes, I don't know what everyone gets pulled over for!!!! Give me a break!! But 2 stories for ya!! Saw a guy in a nice Tahoe, which was why I stopped to talk to him, he had been pulled over on the side of the road, cops were just leaving, I asked him what's up. He said he just got pulled over for illegal headlights, he was running HID's in his stock housings, with 8k bulbs both Headlights and fogs. The blueish bulbs didn't help, but his lights were crazy bright, like he had his brights on. Cops just gave him a fix it ticket, and told him they didn't want to see him another night with the same lights. I have had friends pulled over on drives for illegal headlights!!! They did have HID's in reflector housing, at the time didn't think much of it, but got pulled over for "driving with highbeams on". Now, I don't know everyones situation, and like I said, doesn't mean you are gonna get pulled over, just gives HID a bad name, and why people do believe they are blinding. NOT EVERYONES SITUATION!! No need to take it so literally!!! My opinion, and what I have heard and seen done, no b.s.

As far as your friend thetahoe92, why don't you have him drive "AT" you from a distance and tell me it doesn't look like he has his brights on??? I almost gaurantee, unless he is using a bulb deflector in his halogen reflector stock headlights, it will look extremely bright. Maybe not blinding, but the whole headlight bowl will be lit like his brights are on. Now that's the problem with HID's inside halogen reflector housings. IMO. Again, just one mans opinion, and what I HAVE noticed on the road here in Arizona.

looking at my tahoe from the front the housing will glow bright but it will not blind you until you get down level with the chevy emblem.
I have been pulled over multiple times at night for tint and the cop said nothing about my lights so he obviously didn't think they were blinding.
I have never been flashed for my lights blinding anyone
like I said if you AIM them there should not be any problems

stock housings no cut off

Like I said to blizzardx92, not EVERYONE is gonna get pulled over for it!! I know plenty of cops, good friends are cops, here in AZ who I get the low down and B.S. from, and have told me they pulled plenty of people over for HID's. BUT NOT EVERYBODY!!!

Syndicatesteve told me a story at the car show/food drive here in AZ awhile back, about him getting pulled over for his headlights in his 08' tahoe. Now he said he has aftermarket HID's in his ride, but those vehicles came with the option of having HID's. So when the cop pulled him over he pulled out the paper work showing it as an option on his vehicle, and nothing happened. But, he DID get pulled over for it.

thetahoe92, Not coming at you bro, or trying to throw your name in this like your "GONNA" get pulled over for your headlights. Blizzardx23, pointed you out, so just saying, they are probably brighter then my projectors with HID's. NOT SAYING YOU WILL GET INTO TROUBLE FOR IT!!!!

It's like talking to a wall....

Let the pics do the talking:

HID's in halogen reflectors, as posted above:

HID's in HID projectors retrofitted into Denali headlights:

Not trashing you, but c'mon, there's a huge difference. I have to give Chevy/GMC some credit, though, because their reflector housings do a half-way decent job of at least being able to aim most of the HID light out of people's eyes. Ford and Dodge trucks are the worst when people throw HID's in them....

My $0.02 here is that when I had my truck lowered a bit over 2" up front, I got like one flash a month. Ever since I returned it to stock up front temporarily, I get 3-4 a week so height has alot to do with it.
Also I have a friend who has a Honda Civic ricer type edition and his HIDs in projector housings get flashes all night when compared to mine.:hands:

I take no offense to any thing said above I'm not trying to be that kid that says "oh my shit don't stink" or anything like that because I know stock housings compared to projectors there will be a HUGE difference in light output and cutoff but what I am saying is just because some people don't know how to aim there headlights in a stock housing doesn't mean it still won't serve its purpose without blinding anyone.. until I get projectors :)

and that is a camera phone shot so it won't exactly portray the light the best but I get what you guys are trying to say
