The list of crap wrong with this truck is growing...poor SOB previous owner didn't take good care of her, at all. The 2 door yukon that has been in my family since 1993 (new, my brother now drives) is in much better shape than this thing and with 298000 miles no less.

driveline vibration, interior wires crossed, codes, exhaust leak, oil pan gasket leak, water leaks front and back when it rains.

Reminding myself this truck is 18 years old and far less trouble than my son will be when he's 18 i'm sure.

Thanks SLC.

maybe so but those codes were expected with the drivetrain change were they not? maybe even exhaust leak? by the way speaking of oil leaks why not do the pan when the switch was made and did yiu replace the main seal as least?

SLC,

I actually expected far more codes than what it turned up. I chose not to do the pan when I did the swap. My mistake maybe. I figure i can take the 4x4 down and get the pan off easily enough. I did not change the main seal either. The oil is leaking from the front end of the pan. I found no leakage from anywhere along the back half of the oil pan. My thinking was to handle one catastrophe at a time. maybe to some what I did was like changing the clutch and leaving the old pilot bearing in place. palm to forehead if you please.
Exhaust leak has to do with taking down drivers side exhaust from the headers. It was in the way while I was taking the old 4L60 out (where it runs transversely directly under the bellhousing). Re-attached it and I hear it leaking exhaust there. Cigarette tested it and def leaking. I need to turn the flange around inside as I put it in backwards (i think).

It's what happens when noobies take on jobs that should in reality be left to someone who holds a wrench every day. Just cause I can doesn't mean I should.

It's okay. I'll likely have to take the tranny off again and inspect flywheel/clutch/pressure plate alignment if I can't get this blasted drivetrain vibration figured out. if that happens I'l tackle the oil pan leak and the main seal crap then too.

From the measurements I've taken, It sounds like the driveline vibrations are due to bad pinion angles.

I'm not sure I understand how the frick changing out the 4L60e/NP243 for an NV4500/NP241 equates to a driveline vibration that necessitates axle shims totaling about 6 degrees. The whole 5/8" shorter tranny/tf case changed the geometry THAT much? I kinda doubt it but if that's what it takes, that's what It takes.

in a nutshell what ever anger you have on the front you must have on the back. and very preferably with the same amount of spline in the yokes as before. if not vibrations from awkward angles and new areas that weren't worn evenly and together as before.

May have to replace u joints anyway to "start from scratch" after I lengthen the driveline too is what you're saying...

How much slip yoke should I see on the driveshaft headed into the transfer case? What's proper so it doesn't slip out but won't jam up when the driveline articulates?
