Today I decided to replace the fuse holders on my e-fan relay harness with 8-gauge 50 amp mega fuses since I had an issue and blew the 40-amp fuses a couple weeks ago on 100-plus degree temps, leaving me stranded. And when I cut the old fuse holders out I have to say I was glad I did. The existing wire had melted the protective covering off in an area and partially melted through the split loom. This wire was the remaining part of the original harness from LS1fans.com and was obviously undersized, as were the relays and relay blocks. I have confidence in the entire harness now that I've nearly rebuilt the entire thing but I will be keeping an eye on things. If anything happens again, I'll be looking at the fans themselves.View attachment 178664 View attachment 178665 View attachment 178666 View attachment 178667 View attachment 178668
I bought the same harness for my fans, that I haven't installed yet. I hope I don't have the same issues with it that you did.

03+ have better fan control. You shouldn't be at the mercy of your ac compressor cycling on and off and taxing the fans.

My AC only cycles one fan so I'm at a loss why I blew both 40-amp fuses. I think they both went on high for the first time that hot day but I'm not sure. But yes I've heard the 99-02 don't have as good of control.

Yeah with our older trucks if your truck is at temp and the ac cycles on both fans will trigger on and off high which equals huge amp draw. 03+ works off of ac pressure so the compressor cycling on doesn't mean automatic high fans.

If our fans just ran on low we`d be fine except our ac would suck lol. Fwiw I'm not running any fuses..

I'm sure glad I had fuses or that wire might have caught on fire.
No doubt. I have the Nelson harness and they don't have any fuses wired into them. I may look into it. Maybe a breaker of some type that I can just reset.

I have made plans for the cam install. I've decided to do it myself after unsuccessfully trying to find a shop to do it. I'm taking a vacation the first week of August and have plans for the first part but on Thursday through Sunday, starting in 2 weeks from tomorrow, I'll have more than enough time to do the cam, drop the oil pan (which includes lowering the front differential ) so I can retrieve the piece of the dipstick tube that fell in and install the new Melling oil pump I have, and install the new Cloyes timing set. I've researched everything, and just have to pick up a few more items needed. Stay tuned and wish me luck.
