Bad day? That’s ok we all have them. Even us bots. At least our language skillls have improved to fool the bags of water.

When I posted the only thing that I knew about OBD was that it’s a computer interface for diagnostics.

The link led me to Amazon which was a waste due to the lack of quality information and filled with overseas crap.

you knew nothing about scanners yesterday at 10pm and learned all about the standards at which they communicate on by 2pm today, also finding the best one with a HQ huh.


let me guess, you're product has a "HQ" in the states but it's built in the same place all those other cheap Amazon scanners are built? along with all the other electronics in your house and the phone in your pocket.

I have the VCX_Nano as well - works fine once you get through the setup frustrations! I have used both setups on my SSV with success.

I read a lot about the problems people had. I experienced none. I installed everything from the USB stick that came with the nano, in the correct order, and it worked flawlessly on both win 7 and 10. I think most issues are with the driver install, which is where the order you install the software matters.

security needs to be turned off and whatever it is installed on should be in desktop mode, the software is hacked so it changes some windows files to make it work, if security picks up on it then it removes the necessary files to make it work. even doing a windows update can break it. And the vcx software needs to be updated from time to time to keep the license working which includes updating the firmware on the nano. I have had mine for 3-4 years now lately it seems they have corrected some issue's that were a problem before so if yours is more recent that may be why it went smooth. In the past it has been a struggle to make it work.
using the gm techline software is another mess if you ever need to load some calibrations plan on some time to load all there crud before you can even begin

I have a CGSULIT, basically a Tech 2 clone I think. I've used it a few times and it's done everything I needed it to. It does basic OBD-II for other brands but has the full bidirectional function for GM or whatever brand you order it for. It does seem to be slower than my mechanic friends Tech 2 but it's been fine for me. Around $150.00 typically. The first thig I did was check for alcohol content which showed 70% in my 2007 Yukon that's never had E85 in it. I reset that and the long term fuel trims and it cured it from being hard to start and idling rough while blowing black smoke for a few seconds after first starting. I used it for a couple of other things and with over 300,000 miles I'm sure I'll be using it again eventually. The Innova scan tool I had previously showed codes for bank one and two rich condition and bank 2 sensor 2 which turned out to be chewed wires. Once those issues were fixed the Innova showed no codes and the check engine light stayed off. The CGSULIT found 17 codes still stored. Most of those were issues that had already been repaired over the years but it also pointed me in the right direction to get my cruise control working again.

just thought I would post a update regarding using a vcx nano, I had not used mine for a minute and being a new year now these devices have to have regular updates to function
spent quit a bit of time getting it to work (again) with current updates and got gds2 up and running and the vcxdiag showed up as a interface but would not read the VIN!!!
so after a bit more time of screwing around discovered techline software needs to be installed, doing this apparently installs a j2534 wrapper driver which is needed for it to communicate. Atleast that's my synopsis thus far, once the techline software was installed everything worked again. even though I am not using techline and just using GDS2
I guess I am good until the next update.............

A scanner that I would recommend is this one. Works great and never had any issues with it. My buddy has one too and loves it. I use it on my trucks all the time and my friends cars.
