I'm getting "soot" build up on the paint behind the tips. Even using the foaming brush at the car wash won't take this stuff off. Only way I have found is to use Simple Green sprayed in a rag and wipe it off. There is no sign of any heat damage just the soot. I really like the resonator delete and don't want to take it off but I'm not sure of any other ways to solve this issue. As it sits now the tip sticks out past the body about 1 1/2 inches. Maybe have a muffler shop run it out to the back instead of the side. But I'm not sure how that's going to look.

Anyone else have this problem and what did you do to solve it.

It's not the best pic but you can get the idea.

I would guess the issue isn't the tip itself. Rerouting it would just result in soot on the rear. I'm not sure what's causing the soot.

Yeah, I've had the delete on mine since last summer and the tips get dirty pretty easy but I haven't had this. Seems odd that it would run rich enough to soot the paint but not throw a code. My 99 threw a lean code at +/- 20% fuel adjustment, not sure about the nnbs programming conditions but, it can't be that different.

That's why I didn't really even consider the possibility of "running rich". I thought if it was that rich there would be a CEL. My mileage is off about 1 mpg. I figured it was due to winter fuel.

In KC we have the opportunity to purchase 87 octane without ethanol and 87 octane with E10. You may want to change the fuel you purchase to the other kind and see how it works. I use 87 octane without ethanol and have not noticed any excess film on the bumper. SLP tip on mine too.

I'm out in Olathe and have yet to see a station that has gas without the E10. I run 89 in mine all the time. I've tried 87 in mine several times and for whatever reason it just doesn't seem to like it. That's why my tune is set for 89. I always get gas at Quik Trip, have for years and never had any problems with their gas.

I will do some research around here and see what I can come you with. If I remember right I think Casey's has it bit we don't have any of them close to Olathe.

I'm going to hook up the autocal and see if I can get some codes to pop up. I'm also going to do a data log run and send it in and see they they can see something or work their "black magic voodoo" and rid this thing of the problem.

sbubbaklein you have a really cool rig. I'd love to see it up close some time.
