I bought OEM Struts on Rock Auto GM GENUINE 19420493 that match with my RPO codes 6B4 & 7B4 for my 2010 Tahoe LTZ, two months ago and they already have gone bad. Both the struts have started leaking oil and I'm not to sure what might be the cause. After the install of the struts I always got this message on my dash "Service Suspension System" when starting the truck. I've started the warranty return with RockAuto to get them replaced, but I would like some feedback if by chance both struts were defective or does the message in my dash would be an indicator that something caused them to go bad this soon?

sometimes the electric connection at the top of the shock is wonky but normally your code would stay on. As for the leak unfortunately some parts are bad out of the box. There are other makers like Arnott that make them and have lifetime warranty.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

It is very unusual to have 2 shocks fail prematurely at the same time. There is nothing that I can think of that would have caused the failure other than simply defective shocks. I'd recommend replacing them and still stick with GM OEM parts.

That’s the first I’ve ever heard of new and leaking in a matter of months on both front struts.

The only thing I can think of is that someone did the ol switcharoo on their damaged struts, or returned their used, broken struts back to R/A for a refund stating they were New, unused parts.

What are you using in the truck while you’re waiting for the warranty process?

I hate to think that what @petethepug is saying right but that’s where we are these days. I got a kobalt tire inflator that failed so I took it back. They replaced it with a new one that was locked up in their cage. When I got home to use it it had F-33 and R-35 written on it. Now I open boxes before leaving the store or starting on a repair.

I’ve currently been using my Mom’s car, because the truck also has a bad radiator leak. It would be my luck that both struts were duds, thankfully the new ones coming in later today.

I’m really stoked to hear you’re not stuck in the old GM conundrum of wanting to sell your truck because of blown z55 struts.

Dealers used to extort owners $2600 for a new compressor and rear z55 struts with a one year warranty on both.

GM also has a lifetime warranty on their OEM & ac Delco radiators. Can’t tell you how happy I am with R/A pricing, service and value with GM parts. They’re no nonsense and no funny business.

Who installed them? Did you take a resistance check directly from the struts? When you swapped the springs and tightened them down did you hold the strut so they didn't turn the strut shaft when they got tightened because you could have damaged the internal seals if the shaft spun would cause them to leak. Do you have ( Z55) suspension because if you do then that P/N on Rock Auto doesn't say it fits your truck.
