that's what I am saying, deeper gears, the easier ( getting into more of the max TQ and HP range) it is to spin. You can spin more with 4.10's than 3.42's with his power. 4.10's will maximize his power to RPM ratio.

For example:
My buddies Mustang, ran a best of 9.31 in the 1/4 with 3.73. We put 4.10's in, and now he launches even harder, but he has ran out of gear by the 1/4. He's now crossing at 7400 RPM. But in the 1/8, his ET is better, ran a 5.94.
Last pass was a 9.13@147 MPH, but we're going back to the 3.73's, and back to the track Friday night, too much gear.

Yes running 4.10 will be safe. I actually have the factory 4.10 gears and it great acceleration. At 70mph I am running about 2800-2900 RPM.

for optimum, yes, tires would help.
But 'try' the 4.10s and launch in 4WD, see what it does.

I understand. But what I was saying is that while it is easier to spin with steeper gears, it's also easier to stop spinning....and you typically won't spin as long.

The third video of his Tahoe is a perfect example of this. By the time he totally broke loose and was spinning terribly and smoking the tires, he would have already been half way through second gear and hooking, more than likely.

But with 4.10s, now he'll probably have to worry about spinning in second gear, too. :D

In the end, 4.10s will be a great thing. And my whole point is that sometimes your traction issues will be LESS with steeper gears rather than more, believe it or not.

Get those installed ASAP, get some decent tires, and let us know how it goes!!!

agreed, less peddle to lay off to reduce spinning, but spinning will be easier with the 4.10's, so we both agree, same or a tad different terminology. But none the less, will get him what he's after, WITH good tires :D
