2nds that didn't make the cut possibly.
That’s what I’m wondering especially with the one that didn’t match. I find that strange, never had an issue like that. You shouldn’t have to look through wheels to find 4 that match. Hope you get it figured out George!

Uhh... no. I’ll see though but to put it in perspective the oil pan is off a F body because the stock one is too low, it would hit the ground when it’s aired out. I’m not worried about from the y-pipe back, it’s just tucking the y up high enough to clear the ground when it’s laid out. I won’t know until I try it, maybe it will be ok. The rest of the exhaust will be built by a shop, it’s def not stock.

Unless the routing is different on yours, the oil pan has nothing to do with it. Long tube headers have the collectors past the rear of the engine anyway, and that's past the oil pan. The Y-pipe should cross over under the trans pan. If the ARH Y you have is intended to follow the factory routing then that's where it'd go and will need to be modified from. If the cross member is too shallow then either you'll need larger, but oval pipe or run the two pipes further back before crossing over, like maybe around the trans tailshaft. You may be able to cross over at the arch just behind the bellhousing, but that's be a pretty abrupt 90 after the collector.

I will. To be fair all the other wheels I looked at were the same. It was just that one that was odd. I looked really closely at the other ones and was being really picky.

What strikes me is how willing to stand behind them this place is. Most shady places don’t stand behind stuff like this. Once you leave it’s over.

My hope is that if I go to the machined black wheels that they hold up well.

I know where it crosses over, I was stating that the engine is closer to the ground, that’s why they needed a shallow oil pan. The frame is only 4” tall, 1/4” wall tubing so the body can be dropped on the frame without cutting the floor up, and then the frame and the rockers lay on the ground aired out. There’s not much room for exhaust. I’m pretty sure the engine is lowered, the mounts are mounted lower on the frame too ( I think the pan almost hits the ground) so when the body was dropped it doesn’t hit the hood since the frame up there is stock to the back of the engine mounts. It takes a lot of work for a stock floor body drop and it’s tight underneath.

What happens if they don't hold up? If you have issues with those? Think the owner will continue to be so nice and help you?

Good question. Im sure there is a point where the help runs out. But I suppose thats true for anybody you work with. If I start questioning the quality of everything where do I stop. I know there are many threads out there regarding peeling chrome on factory gm wheels sold through the dealers too so who knows.

I don’t disagree with you. I just don’t know which way I would go now. My original wheels have been sold so I can’t just do a return and continue shopping if I want to.

I will be asking about coverage for the other set before I pull the trigger for sure.

I guess I see it this way...
If in a couple years I have an issue with the clear peeling on the painted/cleared wheels they will be easier to repair. I can sand, polish, mask and paint with the best of them but I can’t do chrome plating repair.
I don’t expect the wheels to last forever but I know chrome will require more work to maintain. One reason why I prefer painted steel over anything else really. This truck just has too much class to go there.

I miss my old beaters some days.

I'd just ask how long of a warranty do they offer. Anything can happen, but not within the 1st month of ownership. Hopefully the new rims will last a yr or 2 with no real issues. Just gotta hope for the best.

George I do not mean to offend you but I do think you are very picky. Nothing wrong with that, because I do know you are paying big money for these wheels/tires and you should be happy with what you bought. I am VERY impressed with the shop you are using and I think they should get a rave review. Most shops would not take a return once a wheel has been driven on, let alone swap for an entirely different set of wheels. I also agree with your decision to stay away from chrome... I think the inevitable corrosion will be painful. I'm just like you and I got painted alloys, no regrets! Easy to repair too should anything happen!

I ran painted steel on my 03 suburban and was fine with them but that was a more “off road” type truck. This one is more “classy” and the wife likes it that way. That said I have to find a balance that we both agree on.

I did a photo shop of the set I am considering. I think it looks good.
