Do you have hydraulic lifters? if so, are they pumped up?

With non-adjustable pedestal style rockers, the adjustment is made with shims or pushrod length

They are not pumped up

Odd part is the wipe pattern for my 1.8 full rollers is off unless i shim them

Compcams magnum rockers + AFR mongoose heads

This was all noticed because with 7.375 pushrods showed a wipe pattern that was too far inboard.
(right in there with the .050 - .100 ls7 lifter preload)

So i was like fk it, went back to the 7.4's
still good, but under .100 preload

now with the engine torn apart again, i noticed the wipe pattern didn't really change with the longer pushrods.

so here i am, finding the 0 lash so I can figure out preload for the correct pushrods and the sweep never really changes.
it sort of goes closer to the middle by a tiny bit.

I'm sure i'm doing this wrong, but shimming the stand up and it's looking much better.

They are being quite helpful.
They said the wipe pattern looks good since it's mostly in the center.
Still odd to me that it's off.

With my sbc in the vette, the rockers are fully adjustable, much easier.

I explained that my main concern , and the reason why I'm detailing this out is the valve train noise at light throttle.

First blamed on the transmission pump or the thrust bearing.

Last run proved it has nothing to do with bearings, and the pump while damaged, was not bad enough to explain the noise...

Next blame in my head would be the double pac springs in the heads.
Or some weird side-effect of the oil pump flooding the heads..

Now i wait... lol

Another concern with the wipe pattern would be the valve guides in those expensive fancy heads.

I still might play with shims, but i don't want to run a full .060...

I did find some shims that go between the stand and the rockers.
They are .020 each...

Who had 93 that cheap?

This reminded me of a part of a dream I had last night- I was buy $5.xx/gallon 93 but the total on the pump was a couple thousand. Like, $2,300ish. I'm pretty sure I was filling up the Tahoe, but it would've had to have a 400+ gallon tank.
Sam's and Costco have premium in Dayton now at $3.99 and UDF is at $4.02. Hope it stays that way for my 8MPG trips next two weeks. Pulling camper.

Speaking of fuel prices,
I saw a .040 thicknesses head gasket in stock.
That would have brought me down to 10:1

I thought about it for a bit... lol

Took the family and the camper down to Cape Charles, VA this weekend, which requires driving over the 17-mile-long Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel - a favorite route. Every time we take a trip I am amazed at what capable vehicles these trucks are. I'm also very happy with the Cam Motion Stage 2 truck cam I put in it last year. At one point I had to accelerate hard to get around some cars and make an exit ramp unexpectedly (was forced into the left lane by half a dozen cars that refused to yield getting on the highway) and before I knew it I was doing 95...pulling a 7000 pound camper. The acceleration got my wife's attention and she was amazed as well.

Our friends Heather and Megan have the little "canned ham" Shasta they pull behind their Subaru. This last shot puts things into perspective. Lol.
