the craftsmans line went to crap long before the name was sold off. big difference between vintage craftsman and the later stuff. there's a market for the old stuff if you have it. the newer stuff wasn't made as well.) it's noticeable side by side.

the new stuff as Lowes to me falls between the 2, bit as good as the og pre 90s ish tools better than the end of the line as sears.

I have a set of their 3/8 impact sockets, feel better than Harbor freight, which isn't that bad these days. I've had them on a 1/2in impact going to town and no worse for wear. like everything thou it's a hogpoge of rebranded stuff. there's no one factory making any brand of tool anymore, it's just what the sales rep has decided for you is good for their brand/profit. so if you see something that is good, try it. if you see something else with the name on it that seems like cheap junk. it probably is.

I feel like gear wrench branded tools are a very good middle of the road cost vs quality.

I always wondered about Craftsman...... Some other company bought that name..... I wasn't sure of the quality after Sears shut down.

FWIW Sears never manufactured Craftsman tools -- it was always done through a contract with an outside manufacturer. "Stanley Black & Decker" owns the brand and has had the naming rights for 7 or 8 years now.

Reminds me of a news story probably several years ago where all the Dewalt tooling equipment was stolen over in china or wherever they made it and that there would be no way for anyone to tell the difference in the tools if whoever stole it started manufacturing with it.

And no one noticed the 15 semi-trucks loading up? ( Sounds like China )
