It was hotter before I did a system flush a few months back but the cooling was in bad shape still and when the heads were pulled a few passages were gunked closed but opened with a push of finger.

I don't have pics, but my old engine also had blocked water passages.

I was told it was caused by the orange dexcool used and that it's common. Even when changed properly, orange builds up particles like a cave's stalagmite until the passage is blocked.

I have switched over to green coolant in my new crate motor. I just change it out every two years. I have another winter to go on this second batch of coolant.

Have you given any consideration as to what coolant your going to put back in and why?

Dexcool was not the primary problem but a problem nevertheless that was discovered after heads were removed. There was evidence that the cooing system has not bee maintained properly in addition when I original got it as I searched thru all the holes and storage areas the were basically bottles of top-off fluids in the back and unfortunately the coolant one was green. I know the system was contaminated because both were in the system and of course a flushing was in order. Unfortunately I was unable to ascertain how long it was in there. The truck did spend few years with out registration and based on the roof and hood paint it had spent some time sitting out in the open not running. So it is likely it was contaminated back then and just sat for a while. I still intend on using dexcool and maintaining it properly with the proper water properties. This can get really technical and I think I will leave it at that.

Remember they were not hard clogged just cruddy particles piling up on a few passages. The pump flow should have been able to push thru it so the pump likely will go to since it probably has cavitation damage from air pockets from someone not maintaining it properly.

Stuff happens.

Should have the head crack pictures hear before end of day
