distrubitor cap and rotor those years? Have you Peeked at the condition of the Contact points of the Cap? May need to be replaced or cleaned up if there is corrosion built up.

Did you get it figured out man? My '99 Yuk daily driver sputtered out like it was out of gas today. I've got no spark now...oh well, didn't feel like going to work anyway.

Not yet. not a dime to even rent more diagnosis tools till next month. Can't go back to work till I have this working and have travel money. RIght now I am borrowing it all so I don't always have control of it. I still look over scanner data everyday and thru my service data to hopefully find something new but nothing obvious yet. There was a temporary peculiar misfire history at one time that had a 150 misfires on #3 to the thousands off of #4 and #6. Interestingly inline with firing order. I will check the cap that I put in a few months ago maybe this week for damage. But I am kinda dismissing the #3 misfires as misdiagnosis by the pcm because 4 and six are so bad. I am sure I need to give pcm more credit though. will get back to it in the next day or so I hope.

Okay priming 60psi

Priming stops engine not running 53 psi

engine running 52psi Jumps to 60psi when open wide throttle.

engine of 46psi drop to 45 psi in 5 minutes and holds that for at least 40 minutes.

Will do filter in next 24hrs. Looks like the pump may be crapping out to.

Higher octane has been helping with ping. Any add on thoughts .

Will check back later.

I have Always found the pickup coil in the distributors to be 90% of my ignition problems on older chevy's.

Have you checked for spark leakage? If not its simple.. Get mister spray bottle, wai till dark out, turn off all lights, warm up engine, rev to 2500 and spray mister around ingnition system.

Had a camero that lite up like christmass once. It also had just arandom missfire and pinging under load... turned out, spark was jumpin like crazy all over top of engine..

the two screwy cylinders are still fire at the plugs but still will inspect becuase when looking at the spark pattern it looked like in between expected spark cycles there looked to be some extra ones in there.

Bad news I am afraid. I did a warm engine compression test on the problem cylinders and 3 others for reference reading and 4 & 6 registered a whopping 3psi and oil finally showed up on #4's plug and piston top.

So at this point I am stalled again and not sure where I am going to get money to fix this. Obvoiusly I will have to pull off the head to see the extent of damage sometime soon but this kills my chances at getting back on the road to work soon.

It is difficult to put all this work into the truck to put it back on the road and have this happen when you are so close to being done. But nevertheless in the 600 miles I have driven this SUV, there are a few things I have learned.

1. Despite all the repairs work that was and still is needed I could not have picked a better vehicle to put back on the road.

2. Despite the cost of repairs, addition's and upgrades it always seems to show more potential that is always is worth investing more in to see what happens next.

3. Unless I roll this SUV over it is here to stay and it will drive again. Hopefully real soon.
