Long story coming up....
1997 Tahoe 4 door with 263k one owner miles.
This thing was a bulletproof family hauler for 15 years.

In Feb of 2011 a ski trip to Canada ends badly when the transmission lets go on the way home.
Fully loaded with family and $ki gear makes for an easy decision to repair and get home, $2200.00 lighter but with a rebuilt trans.

Decide to replace the vehicle once back home but I kept the 1997 around, Not really sure why now.........

Been trying to sell on CL since Feb with zero luck, now down to $1500.00
Scrap yard offer is $500.00

I don't really want to part it out but..............what are best/most needed parts if I do part it out?

Whats a 263K mile tahoe really worth today?
whats a rebuilt Trans with 500 miles worth?

Should I just take the scrap offer and move on?

What would you guys do?

Thanks in advance.

No teenagers to pass it on too???

Keep it around to haul stuff in ....nothin like an old Chevy to keep miles off the new ride.

pictures of said truck in and out if possible. hard to give you a price sight unseen. :)

i take it its a 4 door? they don't seem to hold their value as well as the 2 doors (atleast around here) but if its in good shape with no interest at $1500 then somethings wrong with that picture.

You don't say where you are, I'm assuming somewhere in the New England or Northern US (snow belt) area since you goto Canada to ski, nor do you tell the condition of the truck. We're all assuming it's in good condition, for all we know the body looks like swiss cheese from road salt and the frame has been tweaked. You won't get the $2200 it cost to rebuild the tranny, you may get half that if lucky.

I say if it's running good now you might as well just keep it and drive it to keep miles off the 'new' ride :waytogo:

I just bought a 95 4 door Tahoe that has high mileage like that and a new tranny for $1400 and I thought I got a smoking deal. 4x4 works great. Engine runs good. Heck even the AC works. Needs a few things done to it but definately worth what i gave for it if we get the snow storms we have been getting the last few years here in Oklahoma

Thanks for the replies.
It is a four door and its in NH.
No kids old enough to pass it on to; and the registration/insurance will be up in October.

There is one spot of rust/rot by exhaust pipe otherwise truck is in pretty good shape; every thing works and it was always maintained.
There are lots for sale around here for 2K to 3K but NONE are moving.
Hopefully I can sell it when the weather gets colder.
