Didn't get as much done today as I thought I would...was busy pulling/scraping the carpet off the front doors...not sure how many have done this but it's no easy task. The carpet is heat molded down on the door panel and it's actually molded into the one piece vinyl that makes up the entire door. So it's tough to sand it off or even use a steel brush wheel..almost impossible to peel it off without using a chizel to rub back and forth along the foam backing as you peel. Plus, to do it right, you have to get it out of the creases because when you lay new carpet, you want to be able to recess it back into those grooves so it looks stock..

So, it took me around 3 hours to do a one panel of carpet..

Thanks man, you know ..I don't consider myself a creative person AT ALL

So for me personally, this was a challenge to design, implement and then it got worse when I had to change the design once I started having second thoughts..still crossing my fingers on seeing the truck put back together with the new look!

So I sectioned off junk door to test paint with the same mix of black that I used for the pastic, it looks pretty damn good I think. When I test paint these pieces, I always test scratch them in-between coats to see how they are holding up. Even though I did this during the first few junk plastic pieces to get the cross linker just right, I am a perfectionist to a fault....So I use my fingernails mostly but sometimes I'll take out a flathead screwdriver and rub it down the side of the pieces, mimicking something hard brushing up against the interior of the truck. So far so good on the vinyl door with 2 coats, not a scratch. Same process for baking the paint in, use a heat gun on 800 - moving quickly around the piece so as not to overheat. Dries in 10minutes..

I had sectioned the vinyl off on this door so I could test my prep/paint process on the different sections, but looks like I got it right the first time thank god...I needed some time back to do other ****!!

like step by step, prep, paints all that good stuff I've been dying to get my panels done but don't want to have to redo it after it gets scratched

+1 on that idea I hate all the tan on mine.
