Thank you for @89Suburban for asking the right question. This is a totally different issue if it cranks no problem but doesn't start. Terminology makes a world of difference.

I would go after fuel pressure as well. Maybe a leaking purge solenoid leaking fumes into the motor and basically flooding it?

A purge and seal test would be a good idea to make sure the evap system is functioning properly. After that I would say definitely check fuel delivery to the engine..

ahh that is a completely different thing than slow cranking.

probably is fuel related. would be interesting to see what the fuel pressure does at key off and key on.

could be leaking injector and hot restart is more sensitive to rich restart or time taken to build pressure back up.

Injectors were all inspected when I did the engine rebuilt last summer. This has been an ongoing issue for over two years.

I replaced the EVAP solenoid as well as the canister.

Have not looked at the purge valve.

do you know how the injectors were inspected? like sent off to be cleaned and flow tested or just looked at?

definitely sounds fuel related, even thou I know that's not much help. do you have a scanner that can view fuel pressure? might compare it to what some of the other guys see.

good thing is it sounds like it's cranking fine power wise, which is good. means you don't have to worry as much about burning up a starter or being stranded compared to what I was thinking was happening. besides maybe being a sign of something like a fuel pump getting weak, it doesn't sound like much more than annoying but not going to hurt much.

does anyone know if these trucks still run the pump for 2 secs to prime the system at key on but not start like the older style trucks. if so, something I had to do on my 96 soon after I replaced the fuel pump with a napa one instead of oem. it would crank for a while before starting, run rough for a sec then clear up if I went straight to start. but if I clicked the ign one click to on, pause for a sec and then turn it to start, it would fire right up cleanly. always figured the napa pump didn't hold fuel pressure well enough to make the crank routine happy. you could try that, but these returnless style systems might not even prime at key on?

If your cables have not been replaced. Do it now. In this vehicle they rot from the inside out. You’ll be avoiding the fake DTC code sitch by swapping them out.
