makes me wonder why the rec port ls3 heads don't seem to do this. those get hot lapped at tracks and shut down very quickly in the pits. I personally let mine idle a bit to cool down(except that one time lol) but I see it often, especially in the more stock cars.


does anyone know if the part numbers are the same?


lucky I have Cathedral head 6.0 lol. but maybe a good reason to run a 170-180 stat in the 6.2? even thou power wise it won't make much difference but get some cooler water back there? I have a 170 I made from a nissian 240 on my ls3 and it sits at 190-193 all the time, feels about perfect. could it be the lack of cross over pipes or whatever those little vent tubes are called at all 4 corners?

This often happens with these heads when the motor gets hot. Not so common on the cathedral heads.
My motor never got hot or overheated before it happened. It had 823 heads and on the day it blew up, I was at the shop to actually replace my cam and add longtube headers. The engine was turned off for about 20 mins while I was b.s.ing with the shop owner. It blew when I started the engine up to pull it inside the shop!!! Had I not even shut it off I'd never had the catastrophy in the first place. My new engine has a 4 corner steam port kit installed, I wasn't taking any chances.

I remember. Yours was the exception. I wonder if we ought to use a guide a thousandth or two thicker?

Couple more pics from over the weekend. Also just got called the heads are done so should be able to get it back together tomorrow for first fire up. Then to the shop for final tune

What does that keyed, indexed crank sprocket do for you?
