    Another dropped Tahoe

Nice stance, Brandon. How's the ride? Clearance issues?

    Open Rear?

My bad! I took a pic of the RPO code decal and I cropped off the last column. I went out and looked again. It does have the G80 RPO code in that last column. Thanks for the help.

    Open Rear?

I see that 915_TAHOE was getting it from the VIN# (last eight digits), but I'm not sure how to decode that.

    Open Rear?

That just it. I see no G80 RPO code, but I'm being told this is a G80 diff? I'm the original owner so no chance its been changed.

    Open Rear?

How does one determine if they have the G80 posi rear diff? Mine has the GT4 (3:73) on the glove box decal, but I see that the GT4 can be either open or posi. I also have traction control which I assume use the gov-lock. But is that technically posi?

    Body molding/trim for roof

Some reasons I did not drill out the rivnuts when I did mine: 1) They stick up rather high, and it seems risky to drill without damaging the roof and causing a leak; 2) didn't want to fill the holes or have to paint any bare metal; and 3) I wanted to have the option of putting the rack back on...

    Body molding/trim for roof

Here's mine with the universal 1.5" self-adhesive molding. Easy to trim the ends with a tapered end. Came from Dawn Enterprises on Amazon, but I see they no longer carry it. I also had to Dremel the back side, but it wasn't too bad. Sorry I don't have a better photo but my Yukon is in...

    NS's 2005 ccsb Denali build

Dude, I'm sorry, but that thing is screamin' for a 2/3 drop (spindles, no keys). It'll give it that PPV stance and no real clearance issues. Somebody was suggesting a 4/6, but that requires major mods. I have 2/3 on my Yukon XL and it rides good and looks custom. Fender space above the tires is...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Don't do the torsion keys if your dropping it. Ride will be ruined. By the way, looks like your ordering for a 4x4 and I thought you said it was 2wd.

    Any smoke out the exhaust?

    Water under mat

I posted back in May about my problem with water under the driver side mat. Mine doesn't have a sunroof or antenna to leak. Had replaced windshield, door grommets, basically everything I could read about and nothing stopped it. I finally removed the door seal completely (both the inner seal and...

    Michelin Defender Ltx

My son-in-law is an ASE Certified mechanic with his own very profitable shop. He can afford the best and knows what works because he deals with tire problems all the time. He runs Michelin Defender LTXs on his 2012 Denali and he recommended the Defender for my '03 Yukon. That was good enough...

Welcome to TYF, dirtedreamer. Tell us about your truck. Is that 2014/15 Silverado front clip with an aftermarket bumber?

    Michelin Defender Ltx

I have had Defender 285/45/22s on my Yukon Xl for about 7 months. I absolutely love them. I do get a slight droning sound on really smooth pavement at 40-45 mph, I think because there is so little other road noise to mask the sound. I had sets of Hankooks and Toyos before these (both were...

Yes. Much better all color matched

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Yeah, no chrome anywhere else except grille. Looks like the color matchers have it. That's the way I was leaning anyway. I even have enough paint and clear leftover to do it. Think I'll buy a fresh non-chromed grille shroud and spray it. The plasti-chrome is starting to peel on my original one.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Finally got my damaged chrome bumper replaced with the painted one. Sprayed it Dark Spiral Gray like the body. Trying to decide if the final chrome piece (the grille) needs to go dark.

    Oh the good old days!

I never worry about the towing capacity that much because most vehicle can be modified easily to increase the capacity somewhat, provided there's enough HP and a tranny cooler. But stopping the beast, that is the big issue. Talking about towing on mountains......we went on a trip towing a...

    Oh the good old days!

Funny! My parents had a TravelAll briefly around '64 or '65. Believe it was a '62. Same body style but with the quad headlights and egg-crate grille, dark green with a white hood and roof. I remember the under-dash A/C vents looked like two wasp nests to me at 4 or 5 years old. I think they went...

If these were your wheels, what would you do?

    Gunmetal gets my vote, too.

    Oh the good old days!

My family had the 1966 Sport Wagon just like this one. My mother loved that super easy, no road feel power steering and the boat-like ride the suspension produced. Only cool thing for me was the moon roof.

Odd sensation on acceleration from full stop

I'm with Mountie. The best way to find anything related to suspension noise is up on a lift. With the ignition unlocked (so the wheels will move) have someone grab a front tire and move it back and forth while you look underneath. That will show worn tie-rod ends, idler or pitman arms. While its...

This sure requires a lot of homework.

    Quality paint job

Yeah, well I'm not sure what prices are like in your area, but I'm not sure even Maaco will touch a full sized SUV (mine's an XL) for even $1200. This isn't a rat rod so I'm looking for something near the original "new car" quality. When I was considering doing it myself, I priced out just the...
