It is a 99 2 door LT. I just put in a HT383E. I guess it could not take me breaking in the motor. It was actually rebuilt twice under warrenty and had been back to the shop several times because of issues. Right now I have no reverse. I have to be aware of where I park in a shopping center LOL...
Actually it does have the full circular bell housing. It has a flat dust cover on the front. Is this a "better" tranny? They cost slightly more that the regular one.
I'm ready to buy a new tranny from transmissioncenter.net. I am not sure if it's the LS1 type or not. How can I tell? The tech said He is 90% sure it is a LS1.

Here is a few pics of the VMAX spacer install when I replaced my motor.
The spacer with new injectors
This is where the fuel lines end up with the spacer on... right in front of the dist cap!
Bend the fuel lines. This doesn't show the nightmare of trying to actually...
Glad to hear I'm not alone with this issue! I contacted Taylor Products who bought out VMAX and they said they have never heard of the problem and noone has ever contacted them about it. They have sold hundreds of them and have had no issues.
Here is his email: Justin Askren...
I installed the spacer on my HT383e at the time of the install so I don't know what the difference would be. In my mind it gives more volume of air and the motor will breath better since the whole manifold is filled with injectors and tubes. I had a MAJOR problem installing the fuel lines. I had...
LOL! This is what AutoTap has to say:
There is a scaling error in the software. To get the setting you need, obtain the high and low readings, and then adjust for the average. This will place you within the + or - 2 degrees required. Joe
WTF! I don't get how you can sell a peice of...
I want to set timing on my 99 383. I have the AutoTap with the GM Enhanced parameters. From what I can tell I need to look at the "CMP Retard" readings but it says "4080". Anyone familiar with this?
Thanks
Hey everyone. Just got the motor installed. It was a *****. FYI try and move the transmission and transfer case back as if you were doing a car. I tried to avoid it and it took a while to get those dowels lined up.
I also installed the VMAX manifold spacer and a Ported Throttle Body from...
I just installed the HT383E crate engine from GM. It was a better investment for me to just go with a crate rather than a rebuild. I would recommend the 383 stroker cause if your going to take the time and expense to do it, just go bigger. It is a lot of work to get that engine in and out. You...
Can anyone recommend valve covers that will fit our engines with 1.5 narrow roller rockers? It seems like the tall style won't fit b/c of the a/c brackets etc. I'm thinking that the inside may need to be gutted? I've been looking at GM and they are ~$200. I think a decent one can be had for...
Settled on 1.5 full rollers from Scorpion. The work involved getting the 1.6's to fit is not worth the expense. I'll be satisfied that it will be a full roller valve train. That should keep the timing perfect. Ordered the HT383E from Fred Beans for $4450. It was the lowest price I could find. It...
Hello,
Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I plan on getting the HT383E for my 99 Tahoe. I would like to install a set of roller rockers and was thinking of putting on 1.6 rather than the stock 1.5 ratio. I have scoured the web and some say they will fit, others say that the push rods...
Hi,
New here and i'm glad I found this. I am going to put in the HT383E soon. I'm looking around for the lowest price. Could you please tell me the dealer you got the motor from for $4000 BowTieFreak? Much Thanks
