On the other hand that would be a very good machine to have without all the techno garbage that's on today's SUVs. Watch for rusting brake and fuel lines. If it passes inspection and I needed a vehicle like that I'd consider something between 10 and 15K dollars.

I just got back from inspection. Needs: Water pump-seeping/corrosive, coolant low and not as clean as should be, d/s rear exhaust manifold bolt head broke off, p/s fluid dirty, brake fluid dirty, transmission fluid full but dirty, oil drain plug seal leaking, both front axle seals leaking and slinging, front pads thick but rear thin, all tires had good tread but sidewalls scrubbed a little, you can assume that the front and rear diffs and the transfer case fluids have never been changed. One thing that stood out at the p/s front rear wheel well there was a red paint scrape that looked pretty fresh and still had red flakes of paint attached that easily dropped right off when wiped with hand. The vehicle was in a small cul-de-sac and across the street was a red Ford pickup that the owner was washing as we pulled up.
The good: Rest of body was great, idled at 40+ oil pressure, great interior, had 2207 engine hours, a/c was cold, and no rust at all. Drove out fine with good solid transmission shifts.

I pulled up in my 2005 Z71, same color, and he looked it over and could not find a scratch or dent on it. While I was inspecting his 2006, he was "fine tooth combing" mine. The big scrape on his, like I said-put there since his ad was posted, had to really let the air out of his sails. His interior was very very nice. Except for the obvious fluids maintenance, under the hood was in great shape. The front axle seals and the oil drain plug fluid leaks were easily addressed if I bought. My main point is that so many times, the sellers will over claim the condition of vehicle. It was NOT excellent and he hated to hear that. It is his 76 year old father's vehicle and he may have over promised what he could sell it for.
