the spotting on the rotor does wipe off as does the white dusting, i brushed the chalky stuff with my hand and noticed that some of it came off. Here is a pic of the dist cap

well i don't see any immediate problem at that angle. who makes the cap and rotor? how old are these parts? and in the picture above can you get me various angled shots of the terminals as if the camera was sitting on the cap edge looking down slightly to see a side view of the terminals. really only interested in the right three terminals.

i do not see a name or a symbol on either, so I have to say generic. I don't know the age of the parts since I just bought the truck. This is the best pic i could get of the inside of cap right 3 ( what would be the d/s) all electrodes look to be equally corroded, but they are not broken

i was looking for cross fire burns. and yeah it is not a delco or delphi unit. at least not the rotor and the cap does not look like it either so far. and i definitely know it is not a msd unit either. i would like to suggest this. if you can do a compression test of the cylinders and post numbers here. weather you can do that or not it ideal to get a declo delphi cap n rotor, wires and plugs. the delco numbers are: d329a for the cap, d465 for the rotor, 9718q for the wire set and 41-993 for the plugs. all can be for about $142 at amazon which is cheaper then a local store. if you want to try clean up the plugs a bit and measure them to make sure they are at .060. that would save $48 but i typically don't recommend using anything but delco or autolite. another option is to put regular copper core plugs from autolite in there. they would be autolite 605's they are about $2 each everywhere. the drawback is you have to change them out in about 10k miles they are not platinum or iridum and can not last up to ten years or 100k mile. i have pushed my copper cores past 15k and about .075 gap but i am running a high power ignition system from msd too. i am going back to autolites xp605 when the headers get installed. i have had a long term experiment going on my truck. if you get standard plugs you will need to gap them. fine point tip ones should already be gapped. if after all this this is done and the compression and cylinder condition is good and you burn out a cap say 5-15k down the road you will likely have to deal with the dizzy as the vent screens may become a problem.

changed the cap and rotor with a set a friend had, made by wells but its new. cleaned up the plug and replaced. Also topping of the coolant. Right now I am wrestling with my gas tank so i can find the source of the minor gas leak.
