I pulled off my intake to fix the infamous knock sensors. Maybe I'm judging a book by it's cover here, but the injectors only have 2 ports? Wouldn't more ports atomize the fuel better? I'm wondering if newer injectors would be a big upgrade for a 3rd gen motor? I'm searching the web here and see they make some 4 port ones for our trucks... Does more mean better?

Atomization is the word you're looking for.

Stock for stock, I'm inclined to say your original injector style is fine. They might could use a cleaning, but should be fine. The 4-hole injectors may have better atomization and/or they may have a better duty cycle. Either way, they may require a tune to run them. You may also have to get different harness connectors.

I put the 4 nozzle injectors in my 00 didn't skip a beat I don't know if it made any difference or not, I put in the Herko ones off of ebay which are oem they just shave the gm number off of them, the price is really good just be sure to get them from "herko" they are in Florida, I have had pretty good luck with there injectors and coil packs on a couple different trucks never had any issue.

Thx I will take a look :) I am also going to see if I can just get these cleaned. Still looking for a 6.0 to rebuild, hope to put all the gd parts on it. I imagine the 6.0 uses a bigger inector?

not a lot of places offer cleaning unless you live in a large city otherwise you probably have to send them out. I figured between shipping them and the price it was easier to just buy new ones a set from Herko is only about $120-130

Looking here at the Herko Website. Having a hard time finding a part number that has 4 ports? Here's what it shows me:

https://herko.com/search.php?e1=2001&e2=Chevrolet&e3=Tahoe&e4=V8,5.3L,GAS,OHV&e5=Fuel Injector

I want to also cross reference flex fuel or 8.1 L builds as I think some people put those injectors on their 6.0L in case they want to build it up, put a blower, or anything else. They're higher rate injectors.
the inj515 is a 2 nozzle, the inj516 is a 4 nozzle but not sure if those will fit or not the design is different, they may have there phone listed on the internet "herko automotive group"

Factory LQ4/LQ9 6.0 injectors are the same as T vin 5.3 injectors and are rated appx 27lb. The Z vin 5.3 flex fuel injectors are different and are rated for roughly 34lb I believe. The 8.1 injectors are more desirable because they are bigger than the flex fuel injectors, but I can’t remember exact specs. If I were going to cam a 6.0 and wanted OE injectors I’d go for the 8.1s.

I will likely pull the injectors off my 5.3 and put them on 6.0. then return 5.3 to stock and sell it. I just cannot find a 6.0

Couple things, my 5.3 is stock... can I run the bigger injectors on it? will computer compensate? I have a programmer too but rather not monkey with programming it.

Second will a stock 6.0 handle the injectors?

I just like idea of larger stuff on there so I have room to upgrade should ai ever choose to.

I ended up using a Youtube hack to clean the inejctors... DC Power supply and jury rigged carb cleaner aerosol can to backflush and then flush the injectors. I pulled the orings off cleaned them too and silicone greased them. I have the customary green (oil resistant) Harbor Freight oring kit. However, not sure if those stand up to gasoline. Ran brake cleaner through the entire fuel rail. I think I'll wait to get upgraded injectors until I get the new motor. Although, some of the spray patterns were pretty sad when I ran carb cleaner through the injector.

It also occurred to me that maybe our heads are designed to take a 2 hole injector. It creates a flat curtain that would span across the flow of air inside the cathedral port / intake port. Two more ports would spread out that flow some of it going into the oncoming air, the other with. This didn't occur to me until (1) I shopped online for about 4 hours looking for 4 hole with little success (2) I looked at how everything fit together. Probably I'm overthinking this whole thing and wrong on all accounts.

Anyways, some shots of my project :)

Anybody know where to get new foam pads for under the intake manifold?
