I used to carry a .44 mag with birdshot rounds in a speed-loader. Regular ammo in the cylinder for bear protection (I'm in Alaska...we have bears outside). If I saw a ptarmigan, grouse, or rabbit I'd throw in the birdshot rounds. I bet that would mess someone up close-range.
