one thing the 8spd like to do is shift gears...it's always looking for the best gear to be in. In town driving the thing will be shifting all the time. you should go and drive one before you buy one.

That's not true. Go drive a Porsche Cayenne or a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 8 speeds. They are seamless.

I like the X5 but want something with a 3rd row seat. Also, I prefer the towing capacity of the Denali. If I were shopping for a mid-size SUV, I'd get a Grand Cherokee SRT8 or a Porsche Cayenne over an X5

I agree. The previous poster has no idea what he is talking about. The closer the gears, the more seamless they become which leads to faster, better, effortless, more undetectable shifts.

Just picked up my YD XL with the a 6 speed and couldn't be happier :) FYI my dealer just told me the order bank is closed for Yukon's until they open them back up for the 2015 1/2. He also said don't be surprised if you don't see the 8 speed anytime soon. He said they don't even have the spec sheets for it on the SUV's. He did say they already had the spec sheet for the Pickups. I pressed the sales men and Manger pretty hard and they both told me the same thing. All still speculations but I thought everyone would like to know what dealer were telling people. Good luck to anyone waiting just for the 8 speed.

The mercedes 7 speeds hunt a lot, but the more tq down low a vehicle has the less it will hunt.

Great news that the order banks are closed and awaiting 2015.5 bank to open...

Because it's officially known that the 2015.5 Denalis have the 8-speed transmission as confirmed by GM on nearly every press release over the last two weeks.

2015.5 by definition is an 8-speed. Why else would it be a 2015.5?

FWIW, my salesman is very forthright and tells me that the 2015.5s will have the 8-speed, etc., etc. His words, "...we'll order one for you sometime within the next 4-6 weeks"

What are the projected changes in the 2015.5 version other than 8 speed transmission? Eta to start building these September?

ETA to start building is October. Also 10th generation OnStar with 4G/LTE hotspot capability will be introduced. Other running changes are speculative; however, the "foot wave" sensor to open the rear tailgate, a 360-degree camera option, bronze alloy metallic paint option are possibilities.

Interesting tid bit...on the GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado trucks, 2015.5 models are widely rumored to be receiving a blue color option as well.

I am the OP. I am very happy I waited as the upgrades sound great! I will be going this weekend to battle with the evil stealerships. I have decided on a 2015I Yukon Denali XL,White with black interior, sun roof, DVD, Chrome wheels (20 inch max), I wanted HUD but do not want the auto running boards or adaptive cruse control. Any thoughts?
