I know Chevron and Texaco are the same company; however, I am not sure about Shell.

FYI, easy things to check are: intake filter and piping, spark plugs, MAF, and throttle body. May be even the O2 sensors and fuel pump/filter (hard to get to so check fuel delivery pressure).

Jacob let us know how your spark plugs look gap wise and deposits. Just curious.

Just a couple things to add:

1) Higher rated octane levels burn at lower temperatures. Running 91 octane may be the problem as GM recommends using 89 in the 5.3.

2) Ask your dealer for a print out of the Technical Service Bulletin on Top Tier Fuels. I recommend sticking with those gas stations listed. I know Chevron/Texaco is listed. I think Shell is listed. And, I believe Conoco/Philips 66 is also listed.

3) check to make sure your spark plugs are the correct ones. OEM is iridium. If they are correct, them I recommend going to a lower heat range of the same plug.

Definitely will. I plan on doing this within the next couple weeks because now I'm very curious :hmm:

I usually get my gas at Quiktrip and have good luck most of the time. If I get 89 or greater octane gas I'm usually pretty good but sometimes we still get the pinging on 89 octane.

I may bite the bullet and change the spark plugs soon just to see what difference it makes. It's about time for that anyway

Yeah Jacob I was thinking the same thing about changing my sparkplugs soon and see if theres any difference. Im at 75k on the odometer what do u guys think replacing?:)

I think the plugs should be good to 100k (need to verify). At the very least you could check them for deposits and verify the gap spacing.

I would agree with the 100k mark. Mine has 116k on it, I bought it at 108k and not sure if the previous owner changed them or not. At the 75k mark it's kinda borderline if you really need to change them but probably wouldn't hurt to at least take a look at them and give them a quick inspection for gap and wear.
