I'm surprised scrappers didn't grab them first.
Around here, I just put metal on the curb and it’s gone in a day. I wish they would take rocks, concrete and broken up bricks. I started getting rid of a whole pile in my garbage can but it was taking too long so I threw a tarp in the back of The Beast and made a trip or two to the dump.

But now I think of it @randeez i do have a couple Moser axles sitting in a spare bedroom that came out of the Silverado 2 years ago because the idiot that narrowed the rear end ordered non-abs ones. Thanks for reminding me. I’m pretty sure I can throw them out but I take it if I do, I’ll need em in a couple weeks? Hey maybe that means I’m starting on the C10 project soon. Or maybe only if I throw out the axles first.;)

as it turns out...i dont know wtf im doing.
im watching all these youtube videos of rebuilding cv axles and im like, yea getting the fookin balls out of the case is easy if you dont have the shaft in the way, cause you cant move the cage enough before the shaft hits the side. then realized theres possible a spring clip that holds the shaft into the cage. beat the holy **** out of it for the last hour and cant get it to come apart. ordered some chinese garbage im hoping i can get like 4 uses out of

That’s the downside to YouTube vids is many times they don’t show when the attempt was an absolute fail  I came across that just this weekend when replacing a faulty ignition switch on the Monte. I got lucky I somehow figured out the issue by continuing to fiddle with it but now my security light is on when I drive and nothing I’ve tried works to turn that off  at the least the switch works better, tho, no thanks to the YouTube gods

Did you use snap-ring pliers to remove the clip to get the shaft out?

FF to 12:10 or so:

this is the only video or post of searching the internet for 4 days that mentions it.
thanks james!

pretty sure the axle i was trying to get the end off of is plenty scored and messed up after last night lol. i have a few others laying around i can steal the joint off of.

also i dont even really need to rebuild the joint, just pull the shaft out of one and put the other shaft in so swapping the outer spline count should be just as easy as the inside. ill dig thru the grease and see if i can find a snap ring tonight

well....there is no snap ring on 2500 axles i guess.
so back to the puller tool, which came and its too small to get around the joint itself so thats awesome....a larger one is 120bux or something like that. going to see if i can rig something up or if my buddys got one/has done them before. seems like a simple enough tool to make ive just got some much other crap to do 100bux is about the limit on what i want to spend

This is how it looks all the way around...I ran a pick tool around it 5x and finally just brake cleaned all the way around, no ring on this end

It doesn’t seem to me they would rely solely on a press fit to hold an axle on a 2500. It just seems there has to be a mechanical fastener of some sort. IDK.
