Shop got started on DOD delete with a Truck Norris NSR stage 1 cam.
Engine is out. Gonna put a good torque converter in in hopes of saving the trans from trouble.
ecm tune should handle Engine Half@$$ delete.
tcm tune should account for 'good torque converter' and delay transmission problems,
provided you've been maintaining the ATF more often than GM suggested.

hopefully all goes well. pulling the engine feels like the quickest way to do it.

Ask Truck Norris (or whomever) whether or not that cam works better with VVT enabled, limited, or disabled.
If I was redundant about tuning the Ecm, hopefully I was not about tuning the Tcm (transmission control module)?

A thorough tcm tune
reduces Torque Converter Clutch slip (regardless of what hardware you bought) which helps the TCC last much longer
customizes BOTH shift tables ('Normal' & Tow / Haul) to suit your tastes while protecting the engine and transmission
can enable protocols that may protect the transmission from overheating, or delay or mitigate the damage

The cam is a non VVT cam. A 3 bolt cam and Summit did not send a cam plate?? or the 3 bolts or a timing chain or the right cover. I was depending on them to sell me the rite stuff. Shop mechanic sez it will need a tune to shut off the VVT electronics. Maybe a little tune to run better with the cam. I gotta talk to him about the trans tune.
I may be off on some of the above 'cuz I don't know what the hell I'm talking about...ha ha ha
Thanks...all advice appreciated. ps...I just ordered a cable to adapt the VVT cable to just a cam cable.
Anyways...mechanic says engine looks really good and they gonna take a hard look at the heads...change the seals regardless.....may take 'em to nearby city to the head shop...ha

Which kit did you get from Summit? For some reason there are many different kinds of DOD/VVT delete kits and from what I've found most don't include all the "while you're in there" items so quite a bit of research is needed to do it "right". Did you get a new timing chain cover? That is required for a VVT delete as well as a small harness adapter for the cam sensor that is on that cover. Also what is the cable you are talking about?

As for a tune, I am not sure how different people do the DOD delete but its likely a full custom tune is going to be required anyway because of the truck Norris cam and a good tuner should be tuning the transmission at the same time as its technically the same file that gets flashed (or installed) into your factory ECU/TCU.

I didn't get a kit. We pieced stuff together (me and Summit guy)..but stuff was left out. timing cover, etc.....and cable I'm mentioning is the adapt cable from harness to cam sensor.
Then I had to order stuff from BTR to finish up parts needed.
Was told a tune was not required for the NSR stage 1 cam I got....but would be better to run one.
Don't know about trans tune yet, but mechanic sez he gonna get tune guy to tune engine....already told him I want trans tune also.
We will see what transpires.

The job is finished. Truck runs great but idles like a John Deere tractor.
Got all the slip taken out of the trans also..(supposedly). I like the way it shifts now.
When I scan for any codes....I have a fault (hard fault I guess) P0010...CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR.
Not showing as a MIL or check engine light.
Mechanic is gonna get with tuner...someting wong. This ain't supposed to happen (he sez) Anyway, that's where we are not with it.
What U all think?
Thanks, Pete

...whatd you do with the actuator?
nothing?
limiting block installed?
delete and install 3 bolt gear?

just read the post before... if you deleted dod its going to need at the very minimum dod turned off and DTCs turned off
it may not need a tune to run ok with the cam specs, but the ecm is still going to try and go into dod mode
