Just started my Cam upgrade getting rid of the vvt & dod on my 2013 Denali. Went through a local shop in Greenville that will do the tuning as well once I'm done. Using the Texas Speed L92 Stage 2 cam with springs, pushrods, ls7 performance lifters, new timing set, CHE trunnion upgrade, & a DSX flex fuel sensor kit to go from the virtual sensor to a real sensor & run e85. So far I've gotten down to the heads being removed & sent to a local shop to have them gone over & install the spring kit. Hope to have them back in a week then will have more updates to getting the cam swapped in, oil pump changed etc.

I did not. We were trying to just get it up on the dyno before hand but ran out of time.

If your heads are off I would have new Seats pressed into the heads. I have repaired 2 recently where the seat drops and the pistons get hit by a valve. Nor sure why the GM seats drop or how common it actually is but I have fixed 2 myself. One on a 6.2L and one on a 6.0L. When the valve hits the piston the piston usually gets damaged so a very expensive repair. My local shop rebuilt both my 6.2L heads for $700. So not bad expense wise and they are already going to the shop. I have not seen this on the 4.8 or 5.3 engines, maybe they run with less cylinder heat or the smaller heads hold up better?

My buddy’s got one in his Tahoe and loves it we’re down on the coast near Morehead city
I’ll be starting my motor build in my Tahoe here soon I was either going to run the 224 cam or the chapacabra they just came out with. I wish I could run e85 you can get it around here though shoot at my local gas station by the house they ain’t even got premium!
I agree though I would do new valve stem seals and seats what time there at the machine shop

This is what took my L9H out, the valve seat cracked in half and fell into the piston. Nothing played nice after that and I ended up with a mangled piston in the oil pan.

I remember this but I forget what the conditions were beforehand. I've heard of it happening when someone shuts off a hot engine, like at a rest area on the interstate, without letting it cool down a while first. I'm kicking myself for not doing this when I had my heads off my L94 a few years ago.

This often happens with these heads when the motor gets hot. Not so common on the cathedral heads.
