While I was troubleshooting this, I removed the driveaxle on that side and went for a testdrive - the noise was still there.
I did notice a rip in the upper balljoint boot and a lack of grease inside.
I began removing the upper control arm but, of course, the balljoint stud decided it wanted to spin. Now I have to sawzall it off. I couldn't even get a visegrip to stop the spinning.
Nothing's gonna happen.Drove it without a CV shaft? Did you have a spare splined hub to hold the wheel bearing together?
Oooooo, that's a good one! Never knew about that one lol.
I think the O.E. ones are fine, but a few of the aftermarket that are 4wd specific will come apart without the axle nut on to hold it together. If it was going to fail, I think it would of happened by the time you made it around the block.Nothing's gonna happen.
Back when I was a grease monkey, I did this to the lead mechanic's truck. Driveshaft looked like a bottle brush when I finished.
