Sent my gauge cluster to http://www.speedometerrepairguy.com/ in MN to have it refurbished with new backlighting bulbs, stepper motors, and reflowed solder joints. Not too dramatic of a before and after, but my oil pressure gauge backlight has been out for about a decade, and I haven't been able to see the gear selector in about that long as well. It looks just as good as when I first bought the truck on 2/1/06.

Was the check engine light out before too? It should have been showing with the key on/ engine off.

No, the CEL came on about two months ago when I was replacing my vapor canister. My best guess is that one of two things caused the CEL not to be on in the first photo:
1. the key had been on long enough that the CEL timed out by the time I took the photo.
2. the person who rebuilt this cluster said, as part of his service, he would update the software (whatever that means). It's possible that the behavior was reprogrammed when it was rebuilt.

Software!? There’s no software in the cluster. [emoji107] so you still have a CEL..? Or was it a matter of when the photo was taken / timing..?

ETA: looks much better. [emoji106][emoji631]

Thanks! No, CEL is not on constantly - only when I first turn the key on. In fact, I don't think my CEL has ever come on except for when I started the Yukon to pull it in the garage while the charcoal vapor canister was removed. I've been very, very fortunate with this truck. It's taken very good care of me over the last 15 years so I've tried to take very good care of it in return.
