What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Took my dirty Hoe up to one of our local LKQ Pick Your Part yards (we have two of those around here, as well as three other Upulls) and picked up a truck lid for a friend's Fusion that suffered a hit and run about 8 months ago.

I've been watching the yards for more than a month and this one came in a few days ago, right color and right badging, and in perfect shape. She's selling it so I'm helping her clean it up some, just need a good bumper cover yet, then we can swap the parts and sell. In this market she should do okay.

Last weekend I pulled the torn bumper cover off, straightened it out a bit, and figured out what else would be needed. Also replaced a taillight. Here's what it looks like after I "adjusted" a few things:

After that I took her -- the Hoe -- through the car wash for a bath and bottom blaster to get the salty residue off. Much better now!

If that bumper cover is just pushed in, you can get it all the way out with heat. Use a hair dryer, not a heat gun. You might burn or blister the paint if you're not careful.

It's split on the top but you can't see that after I adjusted it with a heat gun, carefully. That's about as good as I could get it, so we're looking for a different one. If it wasn't split I might be inclined to attempt some more adjustment, but I think it's a lost cause.

Used a 3M eraser wheel to delete the rear badges and pin strips, vinyl wrapped my grille emblem gloss black, and installed new DNA headlights. I still need to do some bulb shopping, but I'm planning on going all LEDs up front I just have to do some more research about compatibility, especially for the H/L Beams. Definitely a much more modern aesthetic though.

Have you checked out any of the vinyl bumper repair videos on Youtube? It looks like a pretty easy process, and is inexpensive assuming you can do paint yourself.

Not really, but looking to do this as quickly as possible. I'll probably just grab one at Upull and see how long it will take a body shop to paint, or paint it myself.

You can get the equipment from HF for a reasonable price. Biggest thing you'll need is a compressor--unless you have one already.

I have a compressor but don't know if it would be enough for paint. But all I need to do is this one bumper cover, maybe, if I don't get a body shop to shoot it, and rattle cans should be good enough.

I like the look of those headlights but I see they’re reflectors instead of the stock projectors. I’m running Anzo projectors that I was able to do a retrofit to Morimoto mini H1’s easily because there’s brackets available to mount the mini H1’s in place of the ones that came with the headlights. You don’t even need to open them up. Just a heads up in case you don’t care for the output of those. They aren’t fogged, it’s just cold and rainy so the outsides have fog.

I was able to fix the rear seat belt issue I was having. Turns out one of the kids flipped the seat belt over about 4 times and it bound up behind the plastic panel, a little untwisting and it works like a charm. Also, I was able to get the final money together for the rust repairs on the rockers and panels behind the rear wheels. It goes in within a month and should take 3 weeks or so to finish. I will post before and after pictures when it gets back.

Went ahead and ordered some bearings and rings, trying to find a cheap engine hoist. And I'm just gonna grab a 400 dollar junkyard engine to rebuild. Bought 2 sets of bearings, just in case there is a learning curve, but maybe I will be able to salvage my engine too.
I've always wanted to attempt building one, so I guess we will see if it works out for me.
