Gotta borrow a Ford tomorrow to go pick this bad boy up. I think the hoist was my last hurdle, I wanted to build a gantry crane, but people are really proud of their I-beams right now, so we will see if I can make this work on plywood on the gravel or something.

I've been diligently searching for about a week, I was about to go buy a new one, but I lucked out. It is an hour and a half away from here, so probably 40-50 in gas too.

Went to a local yard (didn't even realize it was 15 minutes away) and scored:
  • two sets of e-fans
  • console bezel with the lighter outlets -- drilled mine years ago and it's fugly
  • cup holder rubber insert thing

Was super odd experience. Walked in the main building and guy asked me what I was after. Told him radiator cooling fans from 2005+. Said he had none and seemed like he wanted me to go away. I wanted to go look anyway, just because it is fascinating to me. Asked if I could walk the yard and he responded "we're not insured for you pull, but you look like you can walk, so there's the door. just take a picture of stuff you find." Ok. In less than 10 minutes I found the first set laying in the back of a Yukon. 5 minutes later, I found a second. I want to go back and just give it another once over to see if I missed anything and there's another yard in the same vicinity that I didn't get to because I had to meet up with my dad for dinner.

Paid for my engine, hoping they call me back to pick it up today, I don't wanna wait till Monday...
$518, 294k miles, 185 on the compression test I think he said. The other yard in town wanted 1,750 for one with 103k or 1,550 for one with 150k. Or another yard had some right around 175k for 800.
Wish me luck fellas!

damn those are miles. id be doing the heads, the oil pump timing chain. pan gasket rear and front crank seals before even thinking about putting it back to work. might even do a mild cam and lifters with new springs on the reconed heads. you know its ugly inside that engine lol

I'm doing seals and all of the bearings, ordered the ls cam bearing tool, so hopefully they go in nice. I thought about doing a cam and springs, but I didn't wanna have to deal with tuning it, and I just need it to haul the kids and the dog. If this works I'm gonna build another one and do a rat rod or something

Some parts came today. I can't wait to get started on this thing.
I'm thinking about getting headers or those nicer looking manifolds. But I wasn't really trying to mess with the exhaust. Probably just unclog the cats and call it good.

If it's a stock build, I'd advise against messing with or removing the cats. The minimal gain in power isn't worth the noise and stench.

I mainly wasn't wanting to buy new ones. I'm pretty sure mine are clogged, it had thrown a catalyst code, and the cel was flashing before it lost oil pressure.
Guess I will worry about that after I get the engine out.
